Advice on 108" electric performance?
I'm building a 108" Champion from NE Sail. Eliptical wing, slight double dihedral, aelerons, t-tail, Medusa brushless, and 4300 ma Lipo, all as recommended by the good folks at NE Sail. They say "thermaling at great heights"... is" common" with this plane and it has an "incredible capacity to stay up in light lift" and the "thermaling ability of the Champion is fantastic." With their recommendations I have a flying weight of 66 ounces. It feels very powerful, so I don't doubt that it will climb. My question is, at that weight, do you agree with their claims about it staying up so well? Thanks in advance for your input.

I have a Reichard XL 3200, a slightly larger version of your plane and it thermals very well at 106 oz. you will need to use care when you dethermal the plane to be sure not to build up too much speed because this wing type does NOT like going too fast, but with crow and flaps a slow decent is easy.

RE: Advice on 108" electric performance?
catmanev,
I just ran into your post on the Champion (108") powered sailplane dated 2005. I am in the process of buying it at the present time. You were worried about its weight. Northeast still claims a finished weight of 50-60 oz. Did you complete and fly the model? If so, can you give me any feedback on its flight characterists. I'm planning to use a Phasor 30/3 motor and a 3200mah lipo. Do you think that this is too much power and weight?
