Default Thermal glider simulation....... hmmmm

I just read in the RC Simulatior forum that the newly released simulator FSOne is designed to simulate thermal activity and flying. It appears that they even provide a cheat which is a map of the thermal locations. But bottom line is that there is a sim that's addressed thermal glider flying right up front.

Has anyone tried it to see how accurate it is?

While hunting, have you seen your glider bump a wing when hitting the lift along the side? Have you seen it slow (or speedup or anything) when hitting it headon?

my (old, may i add) realflight does all of the things you listed, except for the cheat map, but you can change thermal and sink strength.

Your old realflight would be? G2?

I've got G3 and it sucks as a thermal simulation. No launch that matches reality. They describe a hugely complex way to RubeGoldberg it, but after getting that to work, it simulates nothing in the real world. And I've yet to notice any thermals. What site have you found to have thermals?

It does slope excellent, but that ain't close to thermaling.

What does FSOne do for launching a thermal glider?

So far, I'm guessing nobody has tried to thermal in FSOne.

OK, dinked around with FSOne at the LHS and found their glider things......

I found the gliders and the highstart and winch launching right away. By the time I found out how to get the highstart to "throw" they were closing up for the night..... ok....... it isn't intuitive to hit the space bar.

So FSOne does have thermal gliders and a way to launch them.

And I just found out that FSOne provides a way to start and control the strength of thermals. I haven't had a chance to try it out, but will have that chance in an hour or two.

It turns out that FSOne's thermal controls are under the WIND settings.

So FSOne also has thermals and a way to control their strength.

kewl............
