I've got a 480 and only ran it on 8 nimh cells with an APC 10x6. It was enough to haul my 30 oz model almost vertical. If you really can keep your 1.5 meter model down to 16 oz then you'll easily be able to run it on two cells at around 20 amps and climb vertically right up and out of sight with no issue at all.
