Glider help
My grandson loves to fly RC airplanes. He recently was given a aspire glider w a 72" wingspan that had crashed. The fuselage was damaged and replaced. It does have a motor and the servos for the glider but nothing else. Are there any recommendations for the the esc, receiver and battery. We currently have a 4 channel GWS transmitter. Our knowledge on RC electronic's is very limited. Any recommendations on these items. Thanks

RE: Glider help
Nice choice of plane for kids but the power questions might get more response in the electric forum. If your gonna fly building and repairing just come with it and on days when weather keeps you in building with the kid is all good too.

Gliders? My fav subject.
Let's see, e-aspire. Probably has a Speed 540 motor and folding prop.
This is probably your plane

This receiver will work with your transmitter if it is on 72 MHz.

You need a receiver crystal on the same channel as your radio

You need and ESC with a brake.
Use this one if you plan to use up to 8 cell NIXX pack

Use this one if you are using 2S or 3S lipo packs

That should do it.

RE: Glider help
aeajr,
You are an awsome resource dude!
I am looking for glider activity (RES or Thermal Duration events) in the Mo., Il., Ks., Ok., Ia., and Arkansas area. The Nats would be cool but I am so new at this it seems kinda silly. I am going to the Wilson Lake event and offer my Bee up for a combat sacrafice!
I noticed the Eastern activities you posted and wished more was going on here in the Midwest.

RE: Glider help
Use your motor with a 20-30 amp esc and 2-3 lipos and you will have no trouble. However, if you decide to use nicads or nimhs, the glider's soaring performance goes down the drain. Also, remember to use a BEC controller.

Don't go to fly if it doesn't feel right to you. Actually, just going to watch is really the best way to do a 1st trip to the Nats. There is so much to see, it really is a good idea to spend 100% of your time doing just that. And you won't come close to seeing it all even then.
