Default Multiplex Easy Glider Electric

I just purchased a Multiplex Easy Glider electric, Model 264207. I have it all assembled and was setting it up to do the Center of Gravity check. I marked the wings as the manufacturer said but found it is tail heavy. Even after putting in the battery and moving it up as close to the front as possible without completely removing the battery from its area, it is still tail heavy. The only way it will balance is if I add a fair amount of weight to the front, near the motor. My question is, is this normal?

I followed the directions right to the tee. Thoughts and comments are appreciated. I usually hang out on the helicopter forum, but now found that I like airplane too.

Thanks in advance for the help.

What motor and pack are you running. Possible that you've either got the measurement wrong or that your motor and pack is way too small/light for it.

I didn't have any issues balancing mine.

Also, do you know if you put those steel balls in the tail?

Whatever the standard motor pack is that comes with it. In regards to the steel balls in the tail, I am not familiar with that, nor did the airplane come with any steell balls. I measured 70 mm from the front leading adge of the wings and marked it.

did you assemble it or was it already built?

If you haven't built it, then someone may have put steel ball weights that come with the kit or added too much weight.

Also could be that excessive glue such as epoxy was used to stick the tail on.

It wasn't built. I box it brand new in a box. I glued the parts just like the manual said. The only thing is did was spray the glue with a kicker to have it set quickly.

I forgot what the instructions call for the CG, have you double checked it in the manual and also, are you measuring from the leading edge of the wing at the fuse?

The manual calls for 70 mm or 2.75 in. What do you mean when you say am I measuring from the leading edge of the wing at the fuse? I measured from the begining of the wing, closest to the fuselage, right where the wing goes in the fuselage.

Yup, that's where your suppose to measure from.

I don't know what to tell you, that's pretty bizzare that it's taking so much weight to get it balanced.

have you flown it yet?

No not yet. I have to add some weight to the nose tonight and I am hoping to ret it out. Best I can tell you now is I will have to add about 1 1/2 ounces to get it to balance out

Are you using LiPo batteries? The plane was made for using NIMH batteries so you have to compensate for the weight if you use LiPos...

I used a 7-cell 1/2a 1400mah Ni-mh and it balances perfectly with it. Did you buy the RTF version? If so, it may have the steel ball pre-installed at the factory. The ARF comes with the fuselage halves spearated and the RTF has the halves already glued together with the included servos installed.

He said he built it from a kit and there were NO steel balls installed.

dendar,

The only thing left is your receiver/esc. Make sure they're as forward as you can get them.

In the grand scheme of things, 1 1/2 oz. of nose weight isn't going to be a great problem, especially for a 'plane that's as light as an EZ to begin with.

have fun.

Hello Everyone,

Yes I am using a Li Po Battery, and with the battery so light, it makes sense that it would be tail heavy. I glued in the 1 1/2 ounce weight last night and it balances with the nose down, just a tad. I hope to try it out in the next day or two. Just one more question, how do you secure the battery? by the time I get into the battery compartment there is little room for velcro. I am afraid once it gets hooked in there, it will be difficult to remove

Thanks everyone for the help. I will let you know how it all works.

Use some rubber foam or sponge, it works well and protects from crashes
