Default Looking for Soaring Competition Leagues

Are there soaring competition leagues that operate in North America? I hunted around and found clubs that have league in their names, but they were single clubs.

I fly in the Eastern Soaring League. www.flyesl.com We are a collection of clubs that organize a series of contests in Thermal Duration and Hand Launched gliders. We fly pure gliders, no motors.

The contests are hosted at a variety of sites. Pilots can be recognized for winning a single contest. In addition they accumulate points over the course of the season toward an end of season award for being the top pilot in their class.

Like the NFL, you can win a game, but what you really want to win is the Super Bowl.

Is the Eastern Soaring League unique? Or, are there other soaring competition leagues of this type operating in the US or Canada?

Hi Aeajar,

Here in florida we have the FSS or [link=http://www.soar-fss.org/]Florida Soaring Society[/link] We hold about 5 competitions through the year. An like you said it is for the whole enchilada, not just one competition. We also have on this same format a two meter shoot out and idependently we have a Gentle Lady contest, and the Tangerine Soaring Championship which will be coming up this november 28, 29 and 30th. The days event go like:
Nov - 28 Tangerine DLG contest / open practice afterwards
Nov 29 Unlimited / 2 Meter thermal Duration
Nov 30 Unlimited / RES Thermal Duration
At the end of the contest there is a fly off between the top pilots of each category for the Grand Champion. More information can be ound out our web site, [link=http://www.orlandobuzzards.org/]Orlando Buzzards[/link] and look under the events link.

Thanks for the web link.

This looks like a great series of events and a great season of flying. Thanks! Yours is just the kind of organiztion I was asking about.

On a personal note, it turns out business will be bringing me to Orlando several times this year. Perhaps I can join one of your great weekends some time.

Indeed it is, I wish I could be in all of it but duties sometimes limit my participation, lets hope next year things changes. Anyway, we'll be more than happy that you could join us, and anyone else coming this way.

Thermals

Enrico

As you said, I see there are 5 FSS events on the calendar. Then I also see other events. Are these not FSS events? Do they count toward the season scores?
