Default Alternatives to nyrod or tips??

My glider, a Dynaflite Daydream 2m, uses nyrods to actuate the control surfaces. Unfortunately, I'm having a bit too much play with them such that the control surfaces never want to stay perfectly centered when the radio controls are neutralized. The best cure for this IMHO, other than replacing the nyrod is to limit the movement of the tubes holding the rod.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and how was it cured?

Thanks in advance,

Robert

P.S. I love this forum

Default sloppy controls

First thing to fix is any movement in the outer tubes. Tie them down so that they cannot move around wherever you can.

Try and keep the tubes as straight as possible.

If they are fairly straight you might be able to replace the inner tube with a piece of pultruded carbon fiber rod. This will save some weight in addition to being more stable.

Set your servo throws to max. Using all the travel available will reduce the rest of the system slop. You can bring the clevis in on the servo arm or move it out on the arm at the surface to maintain correct throws.

Make sure that your hinges aren't sloppy. They can also be a source of play.

If the clevis pin is loose in the output arm or control horn you can tighten it up with a drop of thin CA. Just be sure and pop it loose before you go fly.

happy trails - Rob G

Thanks Rob,

I had a feeling I needed to reduce slop by eleminating movement in the guide tube. It's usable now, so I'll probably wait 'til after the season and do a complete overhaul on that fuse(lighter servos, remove covering on 555, tighten control rods, new covering). We're just starting to get some calmer winds here in north central Texas, so I want to maximize my in flight time. I'm still a newbie to soaring. Had my first half-hour flight 2 days ago. Fun! I even had a witness that day
