It hovers for a moment, then drops, falling steadily to the ground!
Once I got it to stay up in the air for 5 minutes, then took it time falling.

How do you get you glider up in the air? Do you still have full control when it is falling? What type of glider do you have? If you will answer these questions then I think we can help.

By falling, do you mean short flights? If there is no lift, flights will be short. You can look for thermals, which will keep it up, but not indefinately. The better you get, the lighter the air you can keep it up in. The other option is slope soaring, flying on a hillside when the wind is blowing up the hill. Huge lift there. Search both and look for books on both and learn how to do them. Both are a ton of fun. You have to learn how to recognize a thermal.

Don't be insulted if you are experienced with them. Going on what you stated, I assumed this was your first glider. If it is not, tell us more about the problem and we will see if we can help.

I frequently found that by not messing with the controls (much), the plane flys longer.....hummmm, what does that say about the pilot? :-)
