Default Electric glider lipo question

Selling some heli stuff and wondering if I could ever use a 4S 5000 lipo pack in a 2-3 meter glider? I'm thinking that would be WAY too big, but wanted to make sure before I sold them, thanks!

I would say - sell them. That size of battery, I've seen in 6ft cubs or biggrt, with quite large motors, not motorized gliders,

I think many folk would use a 2000mAHr 3 cell in your size ship. Me, I fly a Multiplex Easy pro, with a 1500 3cell, and get a good few launches out of it - maybe 5-6.

Cheers

Flag8r, What C rating are they?

Those batteries are great for fast hotlining. I might even be interested in them!

The batteries would also work perfect for 3 meter electric sailplane fun.

For standard non-powered gliders they are using 2,000 - 2,800 3S lipos if not A123's

That battery weighs more than my 2m glider including the 3s battery

Thanks Andy...just to piggyback that question, what about a CC Phoenix ICE 100 amp ESC? Would there ever be a need to run a 100 amp ESC in a 2-4 meter electric glider?

I wouldn't think so, I think mine has a Jeti 55 (its out in the trailer so I can't look)

Come out to the field and talk to Steve or Fred, they could tell you everything you want to know. That or call Esprit.

If you were getting into the really big 3 and up meter span scale models powered with electric motors then your packs and ESC would be ideal. But for 2 to 3 meter models that need a basic "get up to thermal altitude" performance it's all way overkill.

The one exception would be if you were to mod a hot slope racer in the 100 inch span size range over to a flat land hotliner. Then I suspect that your stuff would be just the ticket again. Then there's the limited climb duration "climb and glide" contest events. But even those shoot for small motors and packs that are pushed to the max in order to keep the total weight down. 5000mah packs don't fit into that sort of configuration either.

I use a 2250 3S 25c in all of my 72" to 80" gliders and get easily 30+ minutes flights with 6 to 7 launches. I could probably use 1350s but would have to rebalance the glider. 5000 4S batteries are suitable to gliders in the 120" size. The only reason to keep batteries of that size if you plan to get into larger gliders.

I would keep them myself. Never know when you might want a 4 meter e-glider, and it would suck to buy a batt.+esc to replace the ones you sold cheap! Or, use them in an edf like a Habu, or convert a 40-60 size glow to e-power for a tow plane, or...Ya get the idea of what I would do, heh heh.
