Has any one flown a asw 28 glider . what did you think looks good for 120 at tower ..

hello yes i have got a asw28 by st-models it flys really well my transmitter i use is a specktrum dx6i its a really beautiful aircraft the asw28 by st models has a electric motor engine so u can get up high then stop the engine its really fun flys really well in a low wind it is capable of aerobatics but on light aerobatics as i did a loop and a roll with my asw28 rc plane one thing i sugest is u tie something on the tail as the model is nose heavy but it will really work well i can concider u getting ur self one good luck.

Hi, I have a Lanyu (company now called Volantex) ASW28 that I just bought in New Zealand from a local hobby shop. It's a foamie but looks nice & flies well. There are some Youtube vids of it flying in NZ from some other Kiwi guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDUVn26cazs (note the Kiwi accent!)

Cost was an attractive drawcard as I got it for approx NZD$300, not bad for a full-house glider.

However, the kit is a bit wonky in some respects and needs modifying if you are going to use a full-house control setup so below are some pics & a few things I did to mine, which at this point in time hasn't had its maiden flight.

Firstly, the T-tail fin is a bit skew-wiff, so I will have to put a little packing under it to compensate: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2117180

Secondly, I had to enlarge the hole for the metal wing joiner in the plastic fuselage to allow the polystyrene wings to mate into the fuselage: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2117181

The next issue is that even with a lipo battery within the range suggested in the guidelines, the model is nose-heavy at all positions on the battery tray! So, rather than add weight to the tail I decided to extend the battery tray aft to be able to move the battery backwards; this has worked well, with the addition of a bit of velcro: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2117182

Another issue was that the white sticky decal strips that are supposed to cover the carbon rods in the wings are not sticky enough and peel off at their edges. So I discarded them and used some white solartrim that I had in my hobby kit.

In addition, the ESC needed to be re-programmed to activate the braking function for gliding. I used a helpful Youtube tutorial for this. It would have been helpful to have had instructions for this in the kit, plus for the other programmable features of the ESC: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2117184

Finally, I had to discard the Y-harnesses supplied in the kit for the wing. The kit is designed I guess for a simpler 4-channel setup, whereas I want to use all 7 channels in a full-house glider arrangement since it has the air surfaces for this. I just replaced the leads with individual ones.

So in all it's a nice model but it would stump a novice I think who didn't know how to modify & set up glider.

I just received my Volantex ASW28 glider this week and just getting started on setting it up. I am finding the instruction manual to be pretty thin on details but I have enough background to work it out without issue. I agree, a novice would be lost... I appreciate the comment about battery placement for balance and am not surprised of that need. Again, something I can handle. My question is if anyone has any suggestions for attachment of the canopy/cockpit cover. The booklet is silent on that and there doesn't appear to be any hardware provided for it. Clearly it needs to be easily removed and reattached for battery exchange etc, so some kind of magnetic mount seems like the ideal approach. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions how to do it (or how NOT to do it.) Thank you.

Nice Tips, Any Follow ups on the ASW28's? I just ordered one this week. For the price this looks like a real nice plane! I'm gonna set mine up full house also.

I have one in the que to build, but have been too busy to get to it yet. It seems that is more important to build up a supply of new kits, than to actually build them to fly.

Hi. You probably solved your canopy issues by now, but here's my two cents worth. If your canopy is like mine it will have x4 small white push-in plugs that simply push into holes in the white fuselage. They work ok, but mine have split the clear canopy plastic in a couple of places. I used epoxy to help, still split a bit more. The next fix if it needs it would be to glue a tab under the rear of the canopy to hook under the fuse & then simply use x2 metal screws with washers at the front to secure it in place - or magnets as you suggest, though the plastic might be too flimsy for rare-earth magnets.

The other issue I have had is the thin polystyrene hinged flying surfaces began to split in places after regular use. I re-hinged using cyano hinges & UHU glue (I think). Still going strong a year or so later.
