Default HK 500 ESC question about polarity

Hey all. I'm building an HK 500 GT TT kit. I got a 1600kv motor and a 60A Esc. My problem is the secondary leads to the motor are not color coded at all (black shrink wrap). Do I need to use my multi tester to find + - and neutral? No paperwork came with it. It is from Copter X by the way.
