Default SEMI- SYMMETRICAL vs SYMETRICAL Blades

So can some one explain to yet another noobie what the difference between SEMI- SYMMETRICAL and SYMETRICAL Blades. Which one is better for a beginning collective pitch pilot.

Thanks in advance

My recommendation is to get symmetrical blades; as you advance and start inverted flight, the symmetrical blades will behave the same whether upright or inverted. Most blades on the market are symmetrical.

Ok I undersand the inverted flight issue, but in the meantime (until I'm ready to try the 3D stuff) will the Semi-symetricals provide me with more stability?

I doubt they will. What heli are these on? A properly setup heli should be stable on either symmetrical or semisymmetrical blades.

These are for a ESKY Honeybee....and mild eno****er with the fridge has frayed the ends of my main rotor blades and in shopping for replacements I saw some semi-symetricals on ebay with the claim these would be a bit easier for the beginner. Like I said at this point I'm just trying to learn basic hovering and manuvering. Since you say that a properly setup model should be stable anyway I'll find some full symetrical.

Thanks for the help.

i had the same encounter with a wall!!OOPS and i removed the blades and sanded them down equaly. they were about half an inch shorter, but they worked!!!

semetrical blades will have hugher head speed giving more stability semi's will have lower head speed giving slightly less stability but less damage in crash due to lower speed. semi's will also give longer flight times but on my honey bee with semi's when the battery is done it is done fast meaning when i notice lack of lift get on the ground fast like 30 seconds fast. In everything there is a trade off. flight duration damage and stability. also you prob wont get inverted lift with semi's.

Thats wierd because I was always under the impression that semi symmetrical airfoil gave more lift and more stablity being that the curve on top of the airfoil on top has more drag on top and the curve on the bottom has less drag, thus making the airfoil have a tendency to wanna stay upright VS symmetrical having the equal drag quantities on each side of the airfoil making it indifferent about being upright. Most if not all nitro helis use symmetrical blades, beginning or not. I dont think the airfoil design will affect the head speed too much if at all.... It may effect the battery life a little as the motor might have less efficiency due to increased drag, however if you think about it wouldnt the semi-symmetrical blade create less drag becuase the airfoil on the bottom having less drag, thus less total drag... unless the total drag is compensated by the top curve, either way I truely dont believe that it effects head speed, but if I am wrong prove it and I will accept..
