Just got my first helicopter an old late 70"s earky 80"s heliboy minus all electrics . I have a spectrum dx6 tx and rx plus 4 futaba 15kg servos . Will I be better with a gyro and which one . It has a flybar if that makes a difference

Do yourself a favor, get a T-rex or something. If you tear up that Schluter you'll play hell finding parts.

While Andy is correct that parts are difficult to find they are not impossible. The Heliboy is a very robust helicopter. On an average tip over you will most likely take out the blades and tail boom, usually not much more. The weak link will be the main gear. I would suggest having a spare on hand before flying it. The Heliboy, Helistar, Supirior and Champion all used the same main gear so there are still some to be found. Blades may be a bit difficult to find as well, they must be non weighted blades. The Heliboy Rotor head has no thrust bearings so blades should not weigh more then 120 grams. As far as a gyro is concerned just about any modern unit would work but don't get too carried away with the gain as it could mean trouble for the wire tail drive.
