find a level surface on the heli and turn it on. Sometimes you have to recalibrate it to get a good reading. Move the blades to make them parallel with the boom. First thing you want to check is mid stick and make sure it is 0. Do you have FBL or FB?

Ok, that changes everything. What you basically want to do is to make the top of the gauge line up with the top of the flybar. That will tell you what your pitch is. To make it so much easier, you want to get something to hold the flybar level and keep it from moving around. I would suggest to look up a video on youtube to make it easier to understand.
