Starting a Nitro .45 Helicopter by hand
Hello Everyone!
I have just finished building up an old Robbe Nitro Heli (1080 mm rotor) fitted with a Super Tigre .45 engine. Its an old heli but never been out of the box. I have almost everything in place and have done the first engine run (Its a virgin engine) on a test bench out of the heli. Although it was seized solid when I got it out the box, a good rebuild and its now running the early run in stage.
I found that the engine started easiest using a simple flip method, by flipping the engine fan with a chicken stick it starts easily and nicely. My alternative is a rubber cone in a cordless drill, I find that method much less effective.
My problem is, I cant flip the fan when the engine is in the Heli! Can anyone think of a way or have any ideas on how to hand start a Nitro glow engine in a helicopter?
I think the feel and the ease of starting much better than power start. Plus you get useful feedback.
Be great to hear any ideas or suggestions on starting an old heli. It has an old style, simple aluminium cone on the side direct to the crankshaft for starting.
Thanks
