What is the most popular Heli Magazine in USA???
Hi all.
I have a question.
What is the most popular Heli Magazine in USA???
I want to order one and see, how it is about the Heli Scene in USA.
It would be great, if you have a link to their homepage.
It would be even great to know, what is the most flown Heli in USA?
Best regards
Ralf

RE: What is the most popular Heli Magazine in USA???
There are a number of heli magazines available in the USA.
IMHO the two best, by far, are published in the UK but available from many of the better heicopter specific hobby shops in the USA - e.g. www.ronlund.com and www.heli-world.com
They are the Model Helicopter World magazine and Rotor World magazine.
Next and a fairly distant next is the Model Helicopter Technique magazine published in the USA.
And in last place (by a country mile) is Mike Mas's Rotory Modeler. It has a very narrow coverage and info base relative to the others. They have relatively little coverage of any brand but TT and few informative articles on set-ups, gyros, governors or other subjects compared to the other three. IMHO, it seems to be a lot of money for mostly pictures and ads.
As I am a heli nut I have almost every issue from all of them over the last few years. Today, the only reason I purchase Mike's Rotory Modeler is to keep the collection intact. In fact I am seriously considering discontinuing it even if it means the collection will stop.
As any magazine is better then none, if you cannot get your hands on any of the others then Rotory modeler may be of interest. But with the net, that is a big "may".

Thanks for the info.
I was a little frustrated with Rotory Modeler. They have issues available as PDF's but even if you subscribe you have to pay to download the pdfs, that was enough for me to say no thanks. Its useless to me if I can't pretend I'm reading something important at work :-)

I want to assure those in other countries reading Rotory that not everyone in America is illiterate. Seriously, there has never been a better example of why English classes are important, and that the editor of that magazine should have been held back. Most of the articles have no flow to them, horrible sentence structure, and misspellings. Not all, but most. You can really tell who is writing what even without looking. There are a couple of people who write for them that are great, and write well (James Wong comes to mind), but they are in the minority.
Beyond the horrible editing and writing, I find that there is always an article or 2 that is helpful and informative. Plus, there's not a whole lot of heli info out there, so I still read it, and pray that outsiders who happen upon a copy don't assume that we are all borderline illiterates. It's been my experience that the majority of the heli fliers I've met are very intelligent, well spoken and educated people.

Ralf,
"Model Helicopter World" by Traplet is my favorite. Most of the information comes from overseas but does it matter? It's in english. They review everything. I have seen them all and would guess it's preferred by most. Full color pages and informative reads. I get it monthly.
