Installing the Futaba GY401 Gyro
Finally! I'm replacing my old Gyro with a new Futaba GY401 gyro and S9254 Digital Servo. Since the currently installed Gyro was already in it when I got it, I've never done this before. That being said, is there anything I really need to know to install this new gyro? My radio is a Futaba 7CAP
Thanks!
John

RE: Installing the Futaba GY401 Gyro
I have a 401 with a JR9303 and I can't get it to piroet the tail moves slow. One direction is a little faster than the other. If anyone has some suggestion it would sure help.

Not sure about JR but move the end points to 120% or better. Also make sure you getting full throw. Your not using plastic blades are you?

Try here:
http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=...gyro_setup.wmv
While this install is specific to the TREX 450, you should be able to learn everything you need to know.
I also read that the EPA affects the piro rate on the 401, but I can not attest to the accuracy. If this is correct, though, and you are using a small number for EPA like 50% or so, then that would be your problem.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. However, I failed to be more specific. This is a glow heli with an OS Max .50 FSR. I use 550mm main rotor blades, and it weighs in at about 8 1/2 pounds.

And I think I understand that I should turn off the Revo Mixing and any other such rudder offsets and the such right?? The video was very helpful and he suggests just leaving it in heading hold mode. So, I guess that's my plan.

You didn't say what heli you have. I have raptor with gy401 and futaba 7c. I found all the setup info at raptortechnique.com

Sorry! it's an old one! But it was free.. It's a Miniature Aircraft X-Cell 1001. My radio is also a 7C.

RE: Installing the Futaba GY401 Gyro
Guys I bought a new T-REX 450SE that came with a GY401 and a Futaba 7chp remote control. I have had a few flights and all of the sudden my gyro will not give the beeping sounds it usually does when you plug in the battery. If you give it throttle the blades barely turn then stop. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Andrew

Actually the speed controller doesn't beep either though it does send out the singnal to beep to the motor. If the motor is unplugged you won't hear the beep either.

Oh really??
My speed controller on my foamy fun fly actually plays a little tune when the battery is connected. I REALLY don't think the motor is going to do that.

Dunno about your foamy, but all the higher end ESC's like Castle use the motor as the sound source, as does the Align controller on the T-Rex. And yes, it plays tunes as well . . . .
Perhaps your controller is not doing what you think? Have you verified the sound with no motor connected? It makes ZERO sense to add weight to a controller for a noise-maker, when using the motor works as well, AND confirms that the motor is truly connected . . .
