Heli radio
Help me decide on an affordable radio for helicopter use. I currently have Futaba 6XAS, but found out that it lacks the programmable 5 pt pitch curves and true idle-up modes.
I've ordered an Airtronics RD8000 a couple of weeks ago but found out today that they were recalled and will not be available for two months. What do you recommend for an affordable Heli radio?
Sense I already have several Futaba radios, I would'nt mind getting something comparable; where can I purchase a 9C transmitter only?
How about the RD6000????

Hitec Eclips 7
I've been using a Hitec Eclips 7 for nearly two years now, and have flown six different heli's with it. I currently fly two JR heli's with it. Good price and zero problems so far, there are several other people here who use them. They might have some complaints or concerns to tell you about, but I don't.

The RD6000 Super is a good radio. it will do all you will need to fly the helicopter. It has three flight modes where the RD8000 has 4. I am flying with the original RD6000 that is 3 years old and I too am waiting for the RD8000 to add to the collection of radios I have.

Either put an ad for one wanted on here in the radio forum, or there is one on ebay right now. That is the best transmitter you could buy. It is way cool. Will do anything you want. You can program any switch for any function on the radio and it has great curves for programming your heli, glider or airplane. You can't find a better transmitter in my opinion.

Its a great transmitter! I went from an old JR 622 to the Hitec Eclipse (which is a very good entry level radio) and now the 9C. I was going to get a JR 8103 but after shopping around I decided on the 9C and now that I've gotten some flight time on it I'm convinced its the best radio for the money.

Don't let some fast talking hobby shop guy talk you into the futaba 6xhs, it should be against the law to sell that radio as a helicopter radio.

Of those three I would only consider the Eclipse 7.
In my opinion the Eclipse is the only radio I would have under 8 channels. I would go to a 9C or 8103 perhaps but I see no reason to get a 6 or 7 Channel JR/Futaba when the eclipse is out.
I have had a problem with mine to be sure. However Hitech has been more than willing to work with me about it.

Grim, if there is any way possible, get to a place where you can look at the radios you are looking at and compare them in person. Also pick up a 9C and look at it. It is by far a superior radio. Just picking it up you can tell the diff. If there is any way possible, consider the 9C. You will be very happy you did.
