noob question "looks like 2nd fuel resivor"

So what exactly is this thing that has fuel lines going to it, looks like a 2nd fuel resivor?

Its a header tank. Really an airbubble trap incase the clunk in the main tank sicks air for a second the air bubble will be trapped in the header.
