HI EVERYONE,

I am taking somewhat of a poll to find out if there is any interest in an old time helicopter type fly in gathering. What I mean is people still flying old Heliboys, original X-Cell's, Kavan Jet Rangers, American Revolutions, GMP helicopters, and everything else vintage. I think you get the idea.

It would provide an opportunity to get some of us old timers together, swap stories, tell lies, about how great our old helicopters are compared to the new stuff. Of course the new stuff is welcome as well. We will all have our own camps there, as things normally go. Seems like it might be an interesting event, as well as a blast.

If there is some genuine interest in this sort of meet, I would like feedback concerning the idea. It would be held in New Jersey near Atlantic City where there are plenty of hotels and restaurants. There are beaches, shows, and many other things to do in Atlantic City N.J. 24 hours a day.

Of course, maybe we could get some of the new big hitters to put on a show for us too. Thanks for the feedback concerning the idea.

Hello again everyone,

Looks like there is plently of interest in our helicopter gathering. The date is shaping up to be the weekend of Sept. 14th, but could vary a week one way or the other.

We will post a firm date later this week and hope to have some of you come. Bring your old stuff, and new stuff. Everyone welcome, old and new experienced or not. Plenty of lying and flying will be going on here.

Well we are all set with the flying site and dates.

The dates will be the weekend of September 19th 20th and 21st. We will be posting a list of hotels, rates, location, and directions to the field shortly. We will have old helicopters and old fliers attending. We will also have new helicopters and pilots here. We will have a clinic on helicopter setup for the novice fliers who attend the gathering. Anyone past, present, or just considering RC helicopters is welcome.

Everyone is welcome. Atlantic City N.J. is 20 minutes away from the flying field and they have the boardwalk, beach, hotel casinos and shows nightly if anyone would like some night action. Will post complete details for all soon.

If anyone has there own airplane, or is a private pilot and has access to one, there will be a facility to park and fuel your aircraft at our Millville, N.J. (MIV) location. There will be transportation or rental cars availible. For any one flying in you can contact Babs at 609-293-9000. She will be happy to provide you with any assistance or information about the facility at Millville N.J., rental cars, or any other information needed to make your trip a pleasant one.

We would sure love to see all who come, and we promise a good time will be had by all. OC's HELICOPTER GATHERING

Hi Everyone,

Just an update on the helicopter event near Atlantic City N. J. on September 19th, 20th, and 21st. We have received donations from many of the MFG's. of RC equipment for our raffel. There is no purchase required to enter. If you attend the gathering with a flying helicopter and check a transmitter you get a raffel number.

There is a complete V1 Thunder Tiger all metal upgrade 30 size helicopter ready to fly for first prize. It has all the radio equipment already installed and carbon fiber blades. It has a 46 OS engine and will be all flight checked ready to fly on the spot for the winner.

There are a number of other prizes to be raffeled and more coming. We may even have another big surprize for those who attend if our plans all work out. Hope you helicopter fliers, old and new, make every effort to attend OC's helicopter gathering. We are certain you will not be disapointed you made the trip here to join in the event.

OC's HELICOPTER GATHERING

Hi Everyone,

We have had loads of novice fliers along with the big hitters sending messages to us about the gathering. The helicopter gathering is for everyone who wishes to join us here. The trip may be far, but it will be worth the effort for all who make it.

Any novice fliers out there that feel our helicopter gathering is like the others, and is designed just for the big hitters to gather, let me make something very clear about the gathering. It is for all helicopter fliers who want to get together with other fliers. Novice, sport flier, expert, old machine and new.

It is for old guys like me and others who are simply trying not to crash their helicopters too much. Which I am sorry to say, will probably happen to me a few times over the course of the three days. It's for the old machines to scare and amaze us, it's for the new machines to wow us. We may even have a surprize or two for all who attend the gathering.

We wish only one thing for all who come, novice, sport flier, old iorn flier, and expert alike. To have a blast with each other. We hope to have an event to remember, and one that is talked about for the rest of the year. We will fly our ships, we will maybe crash our ships, we will stroke our ships. Whatever your pleasure. When it is over, the best thing that can happen is this. People who made the trip talk about it for the rest of the year, and go away feeling satisfied and want to make this helicopter event again if we have it.

Everyone is welcome, and there will be things going on continuously which will interest all. Love to see everyone and anyone who makes the gathering. There is only one requirement for OC's helicopter gathering. When you come, bring the same excitement with you that we all share when it comes to these RC helicopters. I can't wait to see all you guys that make it there.

Here is a link for a map of the area from Mapquest. Look at the map and follow our directions to the flying site for OC's HELICOPTER GATHERING. As a point of reference use Sommers Point N.J. as the starting point. After you read our directions below, click on this link to pull up the map around Sommers Point N.J.

Follow RT. 559 N.W. from Sommers Point N.J. to Zion rd. RT 559 merges with Zion rd. Follow Zion rd. to mile marker 8. It's only about 2 miles down Zion rd. to mile marker 8 once you are on Zion rd. At mile marker you are there at the field. There is a gate to enter on your right at exactly mile marker 8 of Zion rd. Turn right through the gate and follow the gravel road and which has high trees on both sides. This will open up to our flying site.

Another name used around here for RT 559 and Zion rd. is Sommers Point Mays Landing rd. Again, the entrance to the flying site is exactly at mile marker 8.

If you extend the map Zoom you can see where we are in relation to Atlantic City, N.J. Phila., PA. Wilmington, DE. and so on for reference.

For all you that like RC helicopters, this is one event you should try to make this year. There will be free raffels for all who show up at the gathering with a helicopter and transmitter. There will be old helicopters and the fresh helicopters. There will be wild 3D flying, there will be old helicopters flying wildly.

Plenty of food and cold drinks on site. There may even be a surprise or two for all you guys to see. You HOT DOGS out their may even like it. Everyones invited.

Hello Everyone,

Sorry about the lousy directions I published to the site of OC's HELICOPTER GATHERING. I have received many emails concerning the directions and the link I posted with them.

I would be forever returning all the emails and explaining the directions more clearly to everyone. I will get to work on better directions to the flying site and post them here. Then if you have any questions about them don't hesitate to send another email to me.

We will be posting the GPS lat/longs to our field shortly. There are two methods for this. One is cross streets just before the entrance to the site. The other is actual lat/longs to the site itself.

Most likely we are going to use the lat/longs. They should be easy to set into a car gps maping system. We will have them up shortly.

Hi Todd,

I believe there are some people coming from Nevada, but no one I know about from Colorado yet. There are cheap airline flights into Atlantic City N.J. if you pre book and wish to attend.

The casinos offer many casino junkets into here from all over the place on weekends. Some of the airline rates are very inexpensive from many locations in the U.S. to Atlantic City N.J. as the destination.

OC's HELICOPTER GATHERING

Thirty Days until OC's HELICOPTER GATHERING.

Make it if you can. There will be a flying helicopter with electronics for first prize at a free raffel. There will be other prizes like a complete radio system, gyro systems, govenors, and a couple of old helicopters going at the raffel. The only requirement is show up at the gathering with a helicopter and transmitter. No pilot fees or entry fees will be required for the first OC's HELICOPTER GATHERING.

We would like to get a general attendence count so we can plan on the food service at the field.

Also we will be hosting and open bar and hordevoures in a suite at one of the hotel casinos in the evening for all who wish to come, on the house.

OC's HELICOPTER GATHERING

Hi Everyone,

OC's HELICOPTER GATHERING will still be held on September 19th 20th and 21st. The Miss America pageant was moved to the same weekend as our event because of problems at convention hall where it is held every year. Our dates will not change because of this.

The Miss America pageant was set for the week before until they had a stage problem at convention hall in Atlantic City. You can still get hotels in Somers Point N.J. and Ocean City N.J. if you are coming. Now you have the perfect reason to bring the wife or girlfriend.

Many of the girls would like to see the Miss America pageant I am sure. If you come to the helicopter gathering and bring the girls they can go to Atlantic City for a day or two and see many of the contestants wondering around the hotels and casinos. They could even attend the pageant Saturday night if they like.

I know many are having hotel reservation trouble because of the pageant date switch. Still would like to see everyone who can work it out. As I said before, no rain dates and no excuses. September 19th 20th and 21st are the days for the event. Hope to see you there.

Hello everyone, less then two weeks until the gathering begins.


If you guys can make it, come on down to OC's HELICOPTER GATHERING. September 19th 20th and 21st. If you make it on the 20th and 21st you will have the best time an RC helicopter gathering has to offer. Most of us at the gathering will be just like you. Trying real hard not to crash our helicopters to much. Wanting to make that one perfect flight, which by the way always escapes me.

You will be coming to one of the best RC helicopter gatherings of the year. Not the biggest, but it will be one of the best. No cost to get a raffel ticket for a multiple prize drawing. The catch is you show up with a machine that flies, even if you have to throw it in the air. No registration fees, no pilot fees. Food and cold drinks.

Here is a map to find the field. Additionally, here are the GPS cordinates to the entrance if you have one of those wonderful boxes. If this does not help, next week we will post cell phone numbers in the thread here to call us at the site on your way in.
