RE: What happened?
I am pretty sure that is a picture of the following accident a few years ago. Both planes were in the pattern and coming in for landing when the Piper descended on top of and actually got stuck on the Cessna. The Cessna pilots have bad vision over the wing and Pipers pilots can't see under the wing so it was why it happened. Miracously, both planes landed without pilot injury. Well one plane landed and the Piper was piggyback!! A really freak accident. Even if that is not that picture, that exact thing happened a few years ago in the states. I saw it in my AOPA Pilot magazine.

RE: What happened?
The pilot of the Piper was an acquaintance of mine in college. It freaked me out when I heard about it. ShoestringRacer's story is dead on. It happened at night and word is the cessna pilot was not using the radio. I flew the Piper later after they brought it back, someone stuck a little label on the panel that said "do not land on airplanes".

RE: What happened?
I'm probably wrong but the picture looks to me as if the Piper is on the bottom of the heap. If that isn't a TriPacer then all my years working for Piper were wasted. I'm sure something such as this has happened more than once but the statement that the Cessna? couldn't see above and the Piper pilot couldn't see below belies the design of both aircraft. Take another squint at the photo. I have also seen a similar picture in the AOPA magazine but not this one.

RE: What happened?
Yup that one happened at Boeing field in Seattle. The pilot was all right but a bit shaken, he was killed a little over a year ago, now methinks the flying Gods were trying to tell him something and he didn't listen.

RE: What happened?
Flyfalcons you are absolutely correct as the picture from a different angle proves. I still believe my observation concerning angles of visibility are correct however but who cares ? It's still a situation that should be avoided at all costs.

RE: What happened?
Thanks for the other view. With all my hours in the 150-2/172/182 class birds I was SURE I recognized Cessna spam can gear legs and nose bowl. I also thought I recognized that particular picture and got confused when Ballgunner suggested it was a Milk Stool.
Now as for the visibility issue, in general the Cessna cannot see well above and behind the leading edge of the wing carry over structure. In short, that is where the 'other guy' always hides. The few hours I have gathered in Piper low wing birds indicate the same problem with those folks who hide just behind the leading edge and under you. This is one reason when doing air work (you know like when practicing stalls, slow fight, emergency landing set ups, chandelles [sp?] and other commercial maneuvers) the first step is to do some clearing turns are done in both types.
It is still a funny picture, in a black humor way.

RE: What happened?
My Cessna time has been limited to 120, 140, 182. The rest in various types and a lot of Piper including PA-18A dusters. No longer fly full scale. I quit before I had my age pointed out to me.
I miss it but it was the right thing to do. Maybe being unable to recognize the airplanes in the photo proves I did it right when I grounded myself.
