Default One of the most deadly substances known to man.

So, I'm at work.

We are having a "Lite" conversations about "Dirty Bombs" and other potential threats ....and the conversation turns to what kind of things would be used in a potential "Diry Bomb".

I remember back to my Physics lessons, and say "Well..you know what one of the most deadly substances known to man is?"

I was about to say "Plutonium." when from the next room...as clear as day..

Someone yells...."WEDDING CAKE!!!!!"

Talk about cracking up....all of us were about on the floor!

Nah, beryllium isn't that bad.... Just messes up your lungs with long term exposure...

Plutonium probably would have been the answer up until a couple years back... I'd say now it would definately be antimatter... I'm not sure what they have been successful at making more recently (haven't really be keeping up), but I know at least a year and a half ago or more someone was able to make something like 50k atoms of antihydrogen.... Nasty Nasty stuff..

deadly for poisoning sure... but plutonium can getcha without even touching it... Free radicals! Nasty Nasty... Breaking down cells, causing mutations within the cells, etc..etc..etc... Antimatter though is a WHOLE different story... Any matter that touches antimatter is totally annihalated and converted to energy... It's a 100% effiecient reaction... In other words... You don't stand a chance... LOL

Wedding cake can be quite deadly, I'll admit, but it doesn't kill everybody. It is, however, guaranteed to function as the worlds most effective libido destroyer known to (wo)man. You have been warned.

Man that hard to beat,
But on the truly hazardous side, may I re-phrase, on ANOTHER hazardous side Berylium Oxide, which can easily be made airbourne/airborn.

Lipstick can get you killed or seriously injured. It may be perfectly safe on its own, but when it mixes with the above mentioned element 'Woman' the results can be explosive. For example, before you get home from work, smear some on your collar. When your wife see's it, *KABOOM*. The same goes for perfume and love letters.

Material Safety Data Sheet: Woman
I retired about 8 years ago after 37 years as Lecturer at the local college. i spent the last 12 years as college Safety Officer (half time) There were many situations/events etc, some serious some interesting and some humerous but this really ranks high in my mental collection of minutiae. Thanks very much.

An example of what I collected mentally was the excuse of a student for being late to a lecture: "The train had a puncture", that I found sufficiently original that he was congratulated and excused. Never happened before or since.

I shall attempt to formalise my memories of my Fathers fund of stories of his Full Sized aircraft experiences in Imperial Airways, but for now, a taster.

Before British European Airways (BEA) and before British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). I don't know all the circumstances but I recall he went to a Dance where the Pilots of Mercury and Mia (1930s Mail Piggy back aircraft) were in their cups running around the dance floor, Mercury Pilot on the shoulders of Mia Pilot both with their arms extended making engine noises to the consternation of the Airline Officials and other dignitaries who were present. There may be better to come "I hope."

The most dangerous thing on earth would have to be the kid who sits behind me in class. that or something that was probably in a michael Chrichton novel

The most dangerous susbstance known to man is - wait for it ----- black ink

My life ends when the ink on the credit card bill makes contact with my wife's hand. Atomic bombs have thexplosive power of a dead glow plug compared to her wrath!!
