Pete Nye Albatross
Does anyone have or know of a Pete Nye Albatross?
I remember seeing Dave Nieman flying one at Abingdon 86/87
Got a spare OS90 and ramtec that need cobwebs blowing out

Ron, I would appreciate that, also be very interested if he still has moulds although I believe D Nieman took them on.

Chances are if it does exist Tony Stephenson of Traplet will know all about it. Tony has pretty much all of Petes stuff from what I saw.

If you can get one Pete, you'll enjoy it on the .91...but you'll need to strenthen the moulding around the rear of the canopy/intake area...it's a weak point.

Steve, I put a call into TS some time ago but I never heard back.
Dick, thanks for the info, if I do manage to get one I will take your advice, and bring it to CJ for you to have a go!
Someone must have one stored away in an attic somewhere!!

RE: Pete Nye Albatross
Check it out!
Thanks Ron and especially Pete Nye.
Went down to Sherborne and spent some time with Pete on Saturday and look what I came home with.
This is an ideal trainer and ideal for 44 size or electric fan power.
I am thinking of recreating this great model.

RE: Pete Nye Albatross
Pete, congrats on the Albatross. Keep us informed on the work and first flight.
I have a couple of Traplet videos where Mr Nye explains his models and shows this model flying. I bougt them when I got interest in RC jets about 6 years ago.
From my side, I will try to find time to finish your Typhoon during this autum and winter so to try maidening it for beginning next spring as I am afraid I have been quite busy with too many proyects and home works I take aside my normal job for paying my bills.
Happy to see you active with jets again and best luck with that L-39.
Best regards from Spain.

Hi Jesus,
Nice to hear from you, your Typhoon must be a few years old now.
I am putting my EDF Typhoon to one side so that I can get the Albatros project up and running.
Yes, I am hoping to be very active with jets again since the surgeons sorted out my spine! I can actually stand with no pain now.
Regards
Pete

RE: Pete Nye Albatross
Sorry to hear you had been ill, my friend.
Yes, my Typhoon is 6 years old now and I may say aside the doubts I had with the intakes and nose gear assembly, all other went very sweetly.
Now it only need fiishing and mounting again ducted fan unit, engine, servos and gear although due to my work since 4 years ago I only have little time to continue it during weekends -and not all- and that make pregress quite slow.
It would be nice to also know about your electric Typhoon. Is already flying or is it a kit you have adapted to electrics?.
I admit electrics are clean and user confortable but I personally think there are nothing like glow engines and turbines, of course.
Best Regards and I will keep an eye on your work on the L-39.

RE: Pete Nye Albatross
Thanks Jesus,
I never really felt ill, I could not get about due to pains in my legs when vertical (spinal stenosis)
EDF not really my thing as they land at same weight they take off (heavy) I was just jumping on the band wagon. I have installed an electric 5" fan in the Typhoon retaining all the 91 size ducting and have not decided on motor size etc.
I still like the ICDF stuff but have a MW54 that I may install in the Albatros later on. May fly initially with 91 but Pete made them with detachable tail pipe so can convert easily.
Will update on the Albatros as it progresses.

RE: Pete Nye Albatross
Chaps,
First phase is complete, we have a set of workable splash moulds, albeit very short run I would estimate 5 products max.
Wing is in the process of moulding and hope to have ready by the weekend.
I am going to concentrate on building the donor that I got from Pete as it survived the moulding process quite well.
now , where did I store those fans.........................

Hello Pete
Just stumbled upon this thread, I have got the original moulds from Dave Nieman. I hope to start producing them next year, between other kit projects.

RE: Pete Nye Albatross
Hi John, Pete isn't just a legend he is an original! He pioneered so much in jet design and fabrication that we now take for granted and I am privileged to count myself as one of his friends. Pete is still very active and in my old age one of the lasting memories in my life is the outstanding performance of his crusader at Abingdon 1984?? Pete always has his own way of doing things and I never saw an inlet duct in his d/f/ models but never the less they usually out-performed the opposition. A bit off topic but what the hell, just starting an ICDF Maverick. Ron.

Here are the Original moulds from Dave Nieman
I will get one laid up, Strengthened for turbine use. Wings will be foam core then glass clothed, as will the fin and tailplane.
