[QUOTE=Joshy4u2;11916536]This is my first one. In fact, this is my first turbine. I have flown other people turbines and my own electric jets, but everything I have read here and elsewhere tells me this isthebeginning of a great love affair. :-)[/QUOTE
You will love it, I finished mine about a months ago, and this is a fantastic jet, set up right it makes a great first jet as well. Im in waco, if you need any help, or advice feel free to ask, or if your planning on coming to the area contact me I can bring mine out and show you my setup and how great it flies and lands. A lot of us jet pilots are plannin on flying the weekend after thanksgiving, feel free to come and visit.

Pipe question;
I was approached by someone this weekend that told me I should upgrade my turbine pipe to a Tam's pipe because I have a K-170 on my Ultra flash.
Anyone with the larger engine noticed any pipe damage over time, or think I should take that advise and change my pipe?

No, As DW states its a very strong pipe and can handle 180N turbines. Having said this, its a good idea to periodically inspect the condition of the pipe to make sure it does not become brittle from the heat over time. This should be done as part of maintenance in any turbine powered jet with any turbine. You have nothing to worry about with the stock UF pipe with a 170. Enjoy the plane.
ok thank you. I have been inspecting my pipe and will continue to do it.

Hi andre,
We met at lodi this past weekend. You asked me about my turbine. I was running a P-180 in my UF. After the rally I pulled the turbine and the pipe out and my pipe was fine other than the spring fingers designed to center the pipe with the outer pipe. My inner pipe has been rattling around for years now probably and I took this time to straighten out the fingers to recenter the pipe again. I think with all the flights I've had between the P-120 and P-180 the lower fingers eventually sagged and needed to be reset. Something to look for down the road. Probably had an a small effect on my flight characteristics and trim. But don't worry the pipe is rock solid.

Depends on the original shape as to whether they change, but you can "push" them back into shape with a flat tool (Allen driver or small file) from the rear.

My first jet was a classic Flash and I got on fine with it. No need to start off with a Boomerang / Turbinator type aircraft if your flying skills are ok

We spent yesterday flying with Matty, his first jet was a CARF Hawk, second an Ultra Flash with P-100Rx. Both he flies from our short grass strip (120m)
If you can deal with high wing loading and flaps and retracts there is no need for "learner" jets.

Hi Dave,
Sounds good Hawk a first jet (I'm dreaming about SkyMaster Viper 2m).
There is no problem (fingers are crost) with a flaps, high wing loading (my Cirrus SR22 has about 140g load), but landing gear- no expirience at all, all my planes have fixed.
Thank you.
Regards.

Make sure you have flight mode set up for your flaps. That's the key for this plane so you can trim each flight setting individually
fly with confidence!

Yes - I was out with Dave and Matt yesterday and he was flying his 100RX powered UF off wet grass and a pretty soggy runway. It was taking a decent amount of takeoff run as the ground was so wet but it was still getting off ok and speed was still pretty good. He was also getting mega flight time with the wing and main fuel tanks. For a first jet, it's a good set up. Lighter wing loading than the bigger turbines and you have plenty of flight time.

What fuel are you using on your jets?
The other day, my JetCat 120SX quit just after take off. Happily I could land the UF safely. Upon inspection the engine seized and both turbine wheels were damaged. I sent it to JetCat in Germany and said that I was using low quality fuel that obstructed the oil passages and hence the bearings failed. In this country (Spain) it is impossible to get Jet A1 for personal or hobby use, that's why we have been burning heating stove paraffin in our turbines. The manufacturer of the product is "Zibro", it is blue dyed and recently they added some anti splash additives and now it is quite dense. Doe anyone have experience with this Zibro paraffin. This is the link to the website: http://zibro.co.uk/1588/the-certaint...um-quality.htm
Now I purchased a new P140RXi and tried to use the same fuel, but the turbine won’t go past 85.000 RPM. I think that the pump can’t suck fuel as quickly as the engine demands because of the high density. Tthe new GSU indicates that I am using the “lowest Quality Fuel”.
Also there is the possibility that in the UF tank installation, with two tanks, both of them with a felt clunk, and a BVM UAT, which also uses a felt bag, there is too much resistance and the fuel doesn’t flow freely enough.
Someone from other club visiting Madrid said they were using Diesel Shell V Power, mixed with gasoline at 15% and of course 5% turbine oil. I’ve got many misgivings about this mixture. Is it really safe?
Any ideas on this would be very welcome as I am a bit lost…

The Paraffin you are using I would not, its dirty and low quality. Can you get 28 second heating oil, here it is used in green house heaters (maybe you don't need in Spain!!)
Sounds like your best choice is Shell V Power. No need for 15% Gasoline, just V power and 5% turbine oil will work fine
