I would split the aileron/flap cover so if you need to access or service the retracts you don't have to remove the servo mounts cover....

737, your making good progress. .good hustle. How hard was it to rig the flap...I'm thinking of installing the Flap servo on the upper wing plank to facilitate rigging easier ..I'll design a nice support to hold it. Aeleron will stay attached to the stress plate as you have done. Cheers

Thank you sir! I made a lot of progress yesterday, even with it 120 degrees in the garage!!! I got the servo cover split, that was a super cool idea!! Got the main gear installed, today outer gear door install, and wing tank install. My goal is to have the wing finished by this weekend! I'll take pictures, pictures are always good. To answer your question, I haven't hooked up aileron/flap linkages yet. It takes some patience to get the flap linkage in place, make DAMN sure your links aren't hooked up BEFORE you turn on your radio, you'll for sure drive your horns out of your flight control surfaces!! I will be curious to see your idea about your flap servo mount idea! Take some pictures!!

Hi Tom, 120 degrees wow, reminds me when I was living in Miami. I haven't started my yet, I have a couple of small projects to finish up first . I can't wait to get started. What I am thinking of doing is designed a servo support and Hysol it ...the support .. to the upper wing plank ( Skin ). This way I can rig the flaps perfecty with the stress cover removed. Ailerons are external so there easy to rig. You already have both servos attached to the stress cover. Your progressing so fast by the time I get to read what your up too your 10 steps ahead... would of mentioned it earlier but you already had yours done. .. you might of like the idea and incorporated it into your build. Keep on trucking my friend !

Horizontal stab done! Turned out real nice. Took some time though to align cover screws so that all 4 wouldn't bind and pull the cover flush with skin. Those damn little pieces glued to inside servo bay to strengthen each corner for the screws were a royal PITA! They kept popping off when I put a screw though each corner. I think I left off 2 after I got enough glue on my fingers and servo bay. ACE Hardware for the button head black screws. Finished wing as well, wing tank installed pretty easy, now onto fuselage! Oh, I painted the main strut covers as a test to see about painting the inside of fuselage with texture paint, um yeah, that would be a huge PITA, not to mention a messy undertaking, aborted that idea.

OK, rudder done. This is were it turned into amateur hour. I mounted the rudder servo upside down but with the output shaft facing the bottom of the fuselage. I made sure that the output shaft was facing aft and on the left hand side, and proceeded to cut a hole that the server arm could stick out of. Major goof/bummer!!!! It looks like some glassing, epoxying, sanding and painting are in my future. Why couldn't it have been in a place for a cool sticker to go on!?!? Anyways I took these photos to prevent you from making the same mistake I did! Grrrrrrrrrrr..................

No worries Tom. Mask off the hole on the outside to protect your finish (leave the hole open) and put a 1"x3" piece of fiberglass inside. Don't forget to rough sand the fuselage inside and wet it with resin, then place the FG and wet that again from the inside, use heavy weight glass. Remove the tape and clean outside with lighter fluid if necesssary. Don't use alcohol it attacks the CARF paint. Test on a hidden area. When it dries mask it off again and scratch it up for adhesion and fill in the depression, I like lightweight Bondo. Block sand that down, mask again and put a couple coats of sandable primer down. When it is all smooth and dry bring it over. I have black CARF paint. Or put a sticker over it!

Rudder servo arm seems a bit long ?
You wont need that much rudder movement - just saying + the cover wont fit over the rod

Yeah, I moved the clevis to the 1st hole, going to cut/grind off excess. In the 1st hole, I get full throw both ways, I like me some rudder, for knife edge flight.

Oh man!!!!!! I feel your pain....that really stinks. We take our time, measure twice, cut once, oops!!!! My build, more like an assembly really, had been going swimmingly! I layered 2 fiberglass with slow cure epoxy this morning, it set up pretty nice actually. All I have to do tomorrow is bondo, sand and paint my error!!! Hate setbacks, but I spec that's part of the RC build process. Let me guess when you found out your mistakes, you launched your tools across the garage?!?! Ha!

really nice lookin job on the stabs. Based on my set-up, and the recommended throws in this thread, I think you're going to have way to much throw with those horns. Maybe I'm missing something....?

Your probably right with the throws being to much. I REALLY wanted to use metal arms, not against nylon at all, and love the fact that they have a "dual" lock on the output shaft, screw into shaft, band clamp type allen head screw that "clamps" around the output shaft. I'm probably going to be using nylon arms for the flaps as I'm sure the metal ones I have on hand will be WAY to long to fit inside the servo bay for aileron/flap. It's part paranoid based, part based on the idea that I had these JR metal servo arms laying around. Once I begin final setup, I'm VERY sure that I will be cutting the throws on all flight control surfaces considerably. I really wanted to texture paint the inside of fuselage, but I'm sure it's going to be more of a hassle then anything else.

Hi Tom. Are you talking mounting the cover to the wing, or the servos to the cover? I had a heck of a time mounting the servos to the cover. None of the pre-drilled/tapped holes in the aluminum L-brackets would line up properly with the servo or the cover. Tried it and didn't like it,,, no proper alignment and the bolts wanted to cross-thread to hit the holes. Luckily, I happened to have a couple of Todd's (Tamjets?) servo mounts on the shelf, and they worked slicker than gorilla snot.

FMRR: This might be something you'rte interested in if you're still considering the alternate mount for your flap servo: http://www.dreamworksrc.com/catalog/...W4-40-Hardware
