RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
Here is some footage from my maiden and a couple of subsequent flights - [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpzYbg0TeAI&feature=youtu.be[/link]
I reckon this plane flies awesome.
Landings are a bit quick but I will get there with a few more flights.
Paul.

That was a great landing..you have lots of room so you can land with little more speed...just lower your down wind and then you will be slower. When you hit final..drag it in...

I think you are on the money about lowering the down wind leg. I was a bit scared about slowing down too much on the final, but I think that I can slow down alot more without stalling.
The field we have here is awesome. It is an old runway that hasn't been used in years. You might be able to see a roller in the background in some of the shots. The guys at work made this for me and it has really transformed the strip.
Now you can take off without having to worry about undercarriage damage etc.

Paul no worries on slowing down the flash...no bad habbits...it stalls straight in.. it will slow down nicely..don't be afraid of slowing it down..this plane reacts awesome in the landing pattern....curious how much flap are you using? The flashis very slick so more the better

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
I am running 45mm of flap in the landing condition and about 6mm of crow.
might add a bit more crow once I get used to it.

Not sure about it helping as I haven't flown it without crow.
Definately seems nice with it though. How do you have your set up for landing?

Your landing looked a bit on the fast side.45mm of landing Flap seems too little. Most UF pitots in the UK run about 75mm landing flap and 5-6 mm of crow, thats my set up and it is very easy to land. DW uses no crow and about 90mm of landing flap.It is a personal preference and with 90mm you will need more throttle management though.
Yes the latest springs on the Carf T/L legs made by AT do seem far too soft so I as a tempory measure have wound a few layers of PVC insultating tape around the leg and spring and this has helped no end.
The UF is a great model though.

Thanks for the info Phil.
I will add some more flap and see how it goes.

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
sorry i misread your post for landing flaps...yes dave wilshires setup is the same as mine...its works out to be 90mm or around 4inchs for landing flap...your 45mm will be your takeoff flap...wow wait until you see the plane with full flap...it will look like in slow motion on the downwind...be ready to adjust throttle up to make up for the drag after it settles in...also some down elevator will be needed in a mix also...this is how mine was setup...

Looks good, I use DW's setup also, no crow, not really sure why people use crow for this jet it already has washout and as everyone says it flat stalls becaues of that so it would seem that all you doing adding crow is reducing lift when you need it most resulting in needing a faster approach.
My UF setup up like dw's will land easily in under 250 feet with no signs of being close to a tip stall, crow seems so redundant to me and just a habit brought forward from the classic flash.

Saddle Tanks !!
i glued in the saddle tanks to the fuse last night and fitted the complete bypass . everything looks so tight , and the tanks sit so close to the main wing bolt/nut , and i am worried that the tanks under G loads might move a tiny bit and crack
they are very thin as far as the fiberglass , and also fit so tihtly that i had to cut a bit intoo the bypass , so that there is no pressure on them
looking for photos of others that installed , i hardly found some !! , and seems most that do use the saddle tanks - do away with the full bypass
any recomendations ?
attached pics of my install
last pic is when bypass is closed and pressed down

Saddle tanks are a very tight in the UF. Below is a picture of my installation. I'm not too sure you will need to glue the tanks into the fuselage - seems somewhat overkill given their extremely snug fit! Also if one does crack (which is easily done if you fill too fast) you're are going to be in a world of pain!
They do go in with the full bypass but require a fair amount of 'fettling' and patience to get it right.
To be frank, unless you're going to use the wing tank for smoke I can't really see a huge benfit over the standard set up.

Rob hi
Thanks. Yes I plan to use wing tank for smoke
Otherwise I would agree
Question is as the tanks sit so close to wing bolt/nut
Worried that it would crack under high g loads
There is a 1 mm gap between tank and nut epoxied for bolts

Did you "glue" with Silicon? That's OK.
They should be fine, G loads full of fuel will not make a tank crack when It can't move.
I don't like cable tie retainers, in small sizes they are not round when tight and can 'lift' the tube at the connection point. I use just another 5mm length of tygon as a grip, or since you are a hot country makbe a loop of lock wire.

Since I had to switch to metal clunks and do away with the felt its really difficult to fully empty the tanks then once I disconnect the main tank from the wing tank I end up covered in diesel.
I really think i'm going to switch to the saddle tanks i could also do with the extra capacity, which tank(S) are you draining first?
thanks
Kim

Congratulations and yes, the felt clunks can be an issue although not for everyone and the main fuel tank is empty when it still shows about 1/2 inches of fuel at the front (because it leans slightly front down)

The other reason that the main tank does not empty completely is that the baffle plate has a lip of about 1/4" at the bottom which means that the fuel in the front of the tank cannot be picked up by the clunk which sits in the back of the tank. The rear part of the tank could be completely dry but you will still see some fuel at the front.

Someone stick and mini camera in the fuselage looking on the front of the fuel tank and fly out a tank...then see where the fuel is and when in motion...

Thanks guys, I'm going to read this thread front to back & get really familiar with this bird. I have the main & wing tank (no saddle), & a P-100rx, any one have an idea of a good place to start with as far as setting my timer for the maiden?

Like all turbines, depends how long you at full gas. But Flying hard 7-7.30, mixed flying 8.30-9.00mins
