Thanks for the reply. I don't want to tap my RX Packs so I was thinking of some type of Step Down Regulator for the ECU pack. I could use a Castle Creations 10amp BEC and then adjust the output voltage using my Castle Link but I did not know if there was a better option.

What would be the best way to regulate that? I don't want to run a separate pack for the gear and have to deal with 4 packs in the jet.
Thanks!

i have the the same setup. I parallel a deans off of the smartfly. It's 2 males soldered in a "T" to 1 female. That way I can send un-regulated power to the gear controller from a 2S Lipo, and regulated power to the non high voltage servos. I used JB Quick weld to seal up the solder joint as its non-conductive and insulates the solder joint. Here's a photo

That sticker that says "parallel" is over the JB Quick weld. The exposed end on the T is where I plug my 2S into. The left side of the photo/T deans is the power supply to the gear controller. I just leave that T on the Smartfly and the gear plugged in, and just disconnect the battery for storage. If you would like additional photos, PM me and I'll send you all the photos you need.

Man it depends on your turbine.. If you turbine has a battery voltage cutout voltage, I would NOT put anything on the turbine battery. If your turbine has a low voltage run no matter what settings like Xicoy ECUs, then you can put stuff on the ECU battery like smoke and gear. Since you are runnng a 3S turbine, any regulator would work, but you will have to figure out how to make it not powered when the jet is just sitting around.

If it were mine, I would convert my turbine back to 2S pack, and then use a Y Deans Adapter off the ECU pack.

You can also tap ONE of the receiver packs.. it will be ok and work fine.. The spekky powersafe receiver will use the other pack when the voltage drops.. there wont be 50 mah difference.

I have done it both ways.. so it really depends on the ECU IMO

Thumbs up Maiden flight today

Well, finally off of vacation and got to maiden the Flash today. Wow. What fun this thing is to fly. Three clicks down and three clicks left aileron and that is all she took. First couple of flights I kept to 4:30 and came in with about 1/3 in the main. Going to creep that time up a little bit and see how she does. I posted the video to laugh at. My 9 yr old commentator is always quick to critic my flying. This was his first time using a "video camera" and not an ipad or iphone. So I will warn you he is shaky and it may make you motion sick!!!! We had somewhat of a crosswind today and the first approach was take off flaps and she was just too hot. Went around and hit full flaps and she settled in just nicely. On my last flight the wind had picked up steady and she bounced on me twice and hurt my pride with a wingtip scrape. A little touch up and she will be fine. Glad this thing is a beast!

As for the picture, that is 3 generations! My son solo'd at 4 and just loves coming to the field. My dad is retired and fly's just about every day!!

Great post, and I'm glad I didn't buy it and you kept it! You're gonna enjoy it! Still waiting on my new airframe, the boat docked earlier this week so hopefully will have my new airframe in a week or so.

Hi guys. I have a question for all. When I grab my stab out by either tip and give it a wiggle, I get a small amount of flex and can here some creaking or oil canning. On one side, if I grab it from the leading edge at the the fuse and give it a wiggle, I have the same flex and creaking. I have 31 flights on my Flash now and know this has been this way from the start but it still bothering me. Does anyone else have something similar going on and do you think it's anything to worry about?
thanks!

Correction, it is only one side and I know what it is. It looks like the flat portion of the leading edge of the stab is rubbing on the fuze in the saddle area. I wonder if the hole for the dowel pin is a bit over size on that side giving me that tiny about of play. Any thoughts on how to bush that hole? Some epoxy on the dowl pin? Once dry that would make the dowl larger and snug on the hole. Again this is slight and may not need any attention. Thoughts?

I just un-bolted it. Silly me, there's only one dowl pin in the middle and I guess some rocking is going to be expected I guess I'm not going to worry about it. Would you agree?

The dowl pin is rock solid in the stab but fits sloppy into the hole in the fuse. I think I need to build up the dowl some how. Perhaps a bit of glass cloth.

That did the trick. One wrap od medium glass cloth and thin ca. The dowl fits snugly into the hole.now and the stab is rock solid once bolted up.
