Futura - Ali's Motorsport Scheme take 2
After the success of the Martini Racing scheme that i put on Ali's Futura in June, he has asked me to do another one for him. Well this one is actually for one of Ali's customers who has ordered his turn key service. Again the whole scheme will be done in vinyl, although the joints will have to be overlapped this time, rather than butted together as the model is destined to fly in the heat, unlike Ali's model which flew mainly in the cold of the UK.
The theme is along the same lines of the Martini scheme, another 80's classic, but this time from the world of rallying and touring cars. Ali gave me the same specs as before, which was basically a photo of a car with colour ways that he liked and we sat down to put the design together on my PC.
The design process can take some time, so i tend to put a base design together before Ali arrives as it saves some time, which we certainly needed to do on this occasion. I think i had a week of nights to get the Martini Futura ready, this time Ali bought the model over on wednesday and it has to be test flown on Sunday, before being shipped out. 3 nights and a saturday wouldn't of been an issue, but with things so busy at work it's meant i've not been able to start on it until tonight.
Having all the measurements from last time, has helped alot, which should mean i can complete the Audi scheme in half of the 22 hours it took to design and vinyl the Martini scheme. Hopefully the pictures tell the rest of the story for now, it's 1.30am and i need to be up at 6 to do some other work before finishing off

Good work Duncan, I prefer the Audi scheme to the Martini one.
Maybe Ali will consider a SKODA vRS scheme next year !

Thanks for the comments, glad you like it.
Well as my daughter decided to wake us up at 4.30 this morning, i got an early start and have finished the Futura. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out, in fact i think i might even prefer it to the Martini scheme.

Dunc,
Superb work. I will agree with the one's preferring this to the Martini, looks very sleek. The future gets me going cause it's looks cause so much controversy in terms of looks. For me the vinyl applications have so far made a transformation.
Ali, I am sure the customer will love this!!
Keep up the good work Dunc, nice to see you put more effort in to models than day to day business.
Regards
Shaun

Hmmmm, thinking of replacing my Futura I sold with another! If I do, then clear your workbench Dunc! Oh, and just think how good the finish needs to be considering the grief you give me re paintwork!!!

What makes this look so good is the design behind the canopy, makes it look the shape it needs to be to give the sleek look which it seems to lack in standard guise - good work guys and way less hastle than paint, Dunc may well be after some vinyl packs for the new Stinger as we are looking to go this route rather than paint ;-)

Touche, I could do this scheme in off cuts of vinyl and it would still look better than your painters efforts lol.
Marc s, I'm sure we can sort out a design to suit the Stinger, that's also easy enough for the builder to apply

RE: Futura - Ali's Motorsport Scheme take 2
Firstly, a massive thankyou to Dunc for the super quick turnaround on this one.
When I first thought of the Audi scheme I had a different layout/ pattern in mind than what was applied to the Martini Futura. Although Dunc had different ideas and went ahead and did the artwork for it using the same basic template as per Martini.
I have to say that I am really happy with how its com out. The colour really seem to suit the model, and even though I am not a massive fan of the plastic canopy ( I prefer the bigger painted on canopy that was on mine) I have to say that I might actually like this one even more than my Martini.
Some photos from the test flights, which despite a JEt Cat P200 SX issue ( Which I think I may have found to be down to a bit of fibre glass shard trapped in a fest joiner causing a restriction, and some Radio issues ( Now I know why I dont fly Futaba) All went well. I am hoping that the cleared fuel line will take care of the jet cat issue and maybe some longer aerials on the Futaba RX will sort out the fly away issue, and I can get on with the second round of test flights. Then its of to crating and sending it to its new home.
Now to start thinking about what to do on the next two we have to do........

That look mint, even if I do say so myself
The underside looks cool in grey, I'm tempted to do this scheme on my 2m. As for the quick turn around, I always perform best under pressure, but a few days notice next time would be nice LOL

Hi Ali,
Supprised no one has asked, so guess i will...LOL. What happened with the radio, as in you mention a fly away ???
But its still in one piece...
Both this, and your Martini scheme, look FAB... Make this airframe come alive... Great work from you and Duncan...
Cheers Jeremy.

Sorry to ask again, but is there any chance one of you guys could do me a favor, and do some measurements on the Futura ?
I'm trying to see if Behotec C50 retracts will fit, and there is currently 16 weeks until my Futura arrives
(I have attached a picture with some lines on it, A,B and C) ?
