Time to lay down until the feeling passes again.......
Every now and then I have this desire to have a ducted fan jet again. Not EDF, no no, that screaming, oily mess of a nitro ducted fan. I have a ducted fan A4, with an OS46, but there is this desire for a 90 size ducted fan that is recurring. Why is that!?!?!?!
Ugh, time to go lay down until the feeling passes again!

Go for it.
Diversity is great; I bet it will even make you turbine jets a little more fun.
Ducted fans running on nitro don’t make big fires either.
Fun is fun no matter the source.

Thing of it is, I've been down that Ducted fan road, I don't bother with my A4 because I hate the hassles of it LOL, sometimes I just want stupid things haha.

It just so happens that I have a complete Knights Of The Air F-20 kit sitting in my rafters that I'll give you. It even has the spring air landing gear. You pay for shipping and it's yours![X(]
Be careful what you ask for!

Please dont do it, you know it can be likened to a reformed smoker having a desire for one ciggarette.
You really cant throw away all those years of abstinance for one moment of madness, then you will say 'My why did I do that?'
There is help out there, talk to people.

It's the passing of an era. Seems like as recently as last year there would be the occasional ducted fan flight at fly-ins. I can't recall a single ducted fan though at the event's I attended this year.
All I have left is a single BV .96 in pieces and odds and ends of pipe hangars, remote needle valves and even a starting wand. Probably couldn't give the stuff away.

I have been looking for a ducted fan kit, they have but all dried up. I have very fond memories of the old days and can't fly all summer due to fire danger. If Jeremy has no interest, I would love to have a shot at the F-20 David.

"Well, I see the first meeting of the DFA (Ducted Fans Anonomous) is off to a great start! Remember the very first step is to admit that you are a ductedfanaholic. Denial is your worst enemy...let it out, share your feelings with the group.....lets go around the room and introduce ourselves..........."

Hi David,
That's very generous, and as much as I'd like to say yes, I think there are others out there who would have more time to actually build it haha. There is something about ducted fan that still draws me in, but I know it would sit in my rafters for a long time as well.
Thank you very much for the offer though!

And I just can't see going EDF, not with the cost of the high power EDF systems and batteries, I'd rather buy another turbine for the money. That's just my opinion, the slimer ducted fan's are just a nostalgic thing, kinda like owning an old hot rod, cantankerous, pain in the butt, can't drive it every single day, but there's just something about them!

Nothing wrong with owning an ICDF. You can get some really good deals on RTF BVM jets witht he mighty Viofan and the mighty 96SE purple head.
IMHO, a lot of people dislike ducted fans becuase they were simply not succesful at it. I benefitted from going into the DF world late in the game when everything was said and done, and was able to find tips from many top pros from back in the day in this same forum.
For example, you can't go wrong with a Yellow or Top gun kit and a Ramtec/Dynamax/OS 91/JMP II combo
and you can't go wrong with a BVM kit/Viofan/BVM 91/Weston mini pipe. You keep it simple like this, you should not have a single deadstick. I never had one in three years of annoying my fellow club members. Good I love those loud SOB's.

Hi
I regularly fly my Avonds F15 OS 91 DF in between my Skymaster Hawk, and I have a ball with both of them. I find more relaxing the DF flights. I also have a BVM F-80 that is also DF.
My F-15 is about 6 years old, I lost the number of flights I have with it and, at least for me it hasn´t been a hassle to mantain. Just fuel her up and fly. In terms of power available, flying an ICDF after a turbine flight makes you appreciate the power available we have with our turbines today.

This is a getting my interest up again.
I have two new OS 91,Dynamax with pipes and one each of a early Yellow F-16C with scale gear and BVM F-16 with scale gear and LE slats Both, all new stuff.
I have one Wren 54MKII. One will be a turbine.
The question I am faced with is for a Fan powered one is:: OS 91 (already $$ out,) or go electric?
Unfortunately, (or fortunately) I always consider cost first.

DF did force us to build light when every ounce counted. Now I just stuff a larger turbine into the frame and go. I was looking at video of my F-104 on Dynamax and was amazed how well it flew because it was built light.
