Viperjet Rrrready, P20 installed and running
Just put this little baby together for a P20. This is the SAPAC / Top Gun Viperjet. Cute little iddy biddy air up spring down retracts and proper oleos ! Its really weird building a turbine model on a tiny corner of the workbench.
I cant wait to get my hands on a P20 to pop inside her and see how she flies On the small side for a P20 but we'll see.

About time too!
Main tank was to go on side to get as far back as possible...
What weight do you have so far?

Well I spent a whole week looking at it then yesterday I decided it wasnt going to build itself!
Haven't stuck tank down so will put it on its side.
Weight including rx and everything else on board apart from turbine, ancillaries lipo's and canopy = 1179 grams or 2.6lbs. Spec'ed EDF flying weight is 1830 grams so its going to be there or thereabouts I reckon.../...hope

I have removed the aft end of the intakes so i could push the tank right back to the wing tube, they came out really easily as not much glue had been used

Didi, I'm waiting on the next Jetcat delivery of these babies, it seems they are only sending out a few at a time every few weeks.
Call me old fashioned but I reckon Im going to stick to the ole upwind approach Any casualties with the downwind fun?
Carl, yes the fuel forward of CG is a question but I think Im going to leave the intakes as they are to start with at least. Mine are glued in good and proper and that was one of the attractions of doing this one - having a ducted intake. My Savex L39 had 1 litre of fuel forward of the CG in a similar setup and my Derjet Cougar has a whopping 5kg of fuel quite far forward of the CG with minimal trim change in flight. I reckon this is one for The Orcale to test fly then if it flicks in when the balance changes we can all blame him.
I've just been down to the garage and picked up some bargain saddle tanks that I might be able to fit in the turbine area. 60ml each, could help with balance and an extra minute of flight time ! Will wait to see how things look once the turbine and other bits are in.

Colin
None.
JC say they will send me another fifteen P-20's next week.
I'm sure the balance point will be fine to start with.

Colin,
The main tank you are using looks like a Dubro type, what size is it? also is that the MAP mini UAT? have the same model and he L39 from the same stable taking up room in my workshop as my dad has his name on a P20 and wants to try both types . . . aswell as a Bobcat 25!

If those are for elevator control, tell me it ain't so. Personally, I would not use them on the throttle of a 40 size trainer. It may be a small package... but still a big investment. I would certainly hate to see you lose it because of some chintzy product such as these.

Cheers for your concern but don't worry that linkage isn't going anywhere.

Colin was in collecting the P-20 so expect an install shot soon. Now there are motors shipping expect a few more threads. I think Jamie Cuff is doing the L-39 and his turbine shipped today, plus we get more Monday so Frank can get on with the HT Mirage. CJ in December should be over run by P-20 powered models!
We weighed the Viper with the P-20 and all kit and it looks like 2.0kg dead (4.4lb) dry
