Hey guys below is the updated manual for the New Tornado V3. There have been only a few changes in the building process but I hope this helps. The manual will be up on the website in a few hours as well. I am very glad that everybody that has received there New V3 loves it. We spent a lot of time anymoney to send a rep from Modellbau to the new factory for QC. We will be basing somebody over at the new factory permanty in the near future since we will be moving all our production there.

It always depends you cant just see one number. The main reason is everyone builds completly diffrently. I made several custom tray mounts and reinforsed everything including Hysol on everything but I think your close. Mine was 18.5 pounds with the Rabbit 100 and I also had a bigger ECU battery because the one that comes with it only last for three starts and cool down cycles if its hot out. So 4300 mah ECU, 2 RX batteries 2200 mah each,2 voltage regulators, 2 switches etc. So I think you must be right on. Once I add fuel im around 22 or 23 pounds I think. All I know is now for fun I takeoff just above a stall and violently pitch the nose up at full power and it climbs staight up looks very cool and sounds even better. This plane is so easy to fly its its not funny. Hope this helps.

Will the original v3 retracts spring air fit in the new v3?
also it would be nice if the horiz stab was removeable for easier transport, or the wings were split farther from the fuse

That looks nice!! That's what my box looked like, minus the man handle marks on the box. Glued up ailerons and flaps last night, today servo install. I picked up all the recommended servos yesterday, that stung!!! $$$$$$$

Does anyone know if it matters how the control horns for both aileron and flap face the same direction? It looks like in the photo that the flap horn faces the trailing edge of the flap and the aileron horn faces the leading edge.

The Flap does not need to be over the hinge line and in factif it is back from the hinge line a little it will have more leverage. This is why people sometimes put them the opposite way round

The main reason for putting the flap horn facing the TE is to achieve maximum movement of the flap, this will allow the flaps to act as air brakes if needed, so instead of floating on and on with just flaps, you can bring the thing down with air brakes played against power, this combined with reflex ailerons is what most call crow braking, its very effective especially if you don't have a lot of runway to play with.

Thank you both for your replies. I'm kinda screwed on one wing as I glued both horns on aileron and flap in the same direction, both facing the leading edge. I temp put the flap on, and with the bevel hitting the back of the wing, the horn still doesn't touch the bottom of wing, so if it had to move that much, it could. With the flap in full extend with bevel touching back of wing it's darn near 90 degrees to the surface of the bottom of the wing. I guess I could cut the flap horn off and use another one to face the flap horn to the trailing edge it you guys think that would be necessary?

It doesnt matter which way round they are. It is vital however that the Aileron horn holes are over the pivot point of the aileron
and
Both flaps are being pulled from the same point (Distance from their pivot line) and with a horn of the same length. this will acheive equal travel on both flaps

Agreed, if you are getting near 90deg's that's enough on the flaps, just make sure on deployment the servo arm is in line with the control rod to take the load off the servo gears, especially if they are plastic.
The aileron horns are all about geometry, as SU says the horn hole you wish to use must be in line with the hinge line if you wish to have equal movement up and down, in the old days when we only used one servo for the ailerons we used to rake the horn forward to give us differential, another birthday today, they seem to come around more frequently the older I get. LOL
