Heres how I mounted my K-80. Plenty of room for the fod screen and didn't have to chop up the fuse.
Your FOD screen looks a lot smaller than the on KingTech currently supplies.
Have you balanced and flown the aircraft?

Mike
I agree...my screen looks bigger than that. Also with the turbine mounted so far to the stern, I'm not sure I can rebalance without having to add nose weight. My K-80 is mounted as far forward as possible and I have 1 battery just in front of the tank, and the heavier turbine battery on the side of the fuse nearing the air tank.

Seems weird to me that my plane with nothing in the nose was still nose heavy. Photo of the install minus the ECU battery a 1500 lipo mounted on the tray under the air tank. Sooner ior later going to add a smoke system. Have enough room for a 32 ounce tank in front of the fuel tank.

Is there a way to release the spring on the Spring-Air retracts, so I can store the plane with the struts folded? Can't seem to find any release points.
We have the same dilema when packing the trailer for a trip to a jet fly.

What I use is a metal nail file. It's thin and has a bit of a hook on the end which you can slip
behind the sliding bar on the retract to get it started. Once you move the bar a little they are
no longer locked & you can compress the spring by folding the leg back. - John.

It still amazes me how most of the turbine manuf still dont integrate a fod screen like wren, even JetJoe have been clever enough to do that (look again at my pic in post 1724).

Not quite sure I understand how you do this...can you supply a photo showing the release point ?
Thanks

My Tornado arrived today. I had originally ordered the red & white one but was then told they were out of stock, so I had to settle for the grey & orange. I'll be repainting & recovering.

I use a nail file as shown.

I slide it down between the side frame & trunion then lever the sliding bar along using the plastic end of the cylinder as the fulcrum. - John.

Hi,

I've got a spare Jetcat P80SE - I know its more than 18lbs thrust, but since its only 2 ounces heavier than a Kingtech K80 would it be suitable if I dialed it down to 18lbs?

I know it wouldn't be the turbine of choice for this airframe, but would it fit? would it be too heavy? etc..

Thanks

David Bevan

Weight wise no problem
Thrust wise FANTASTIC
Dimensions ?????? that would need to be compared to K-80

Tried your method but couldn't slide it in to find the spot so I filled the air supply, retracted the gear, taped the retracts in place with blue masking tape and then disconnected the quick connects. Tape is holding them closed. Not sure how healthy it is for the springs to keep them in that position over time.

True. But I have a friend of a friend that does those really cool vinyl wraps for cars, motorcycles, jetskies etc and I think he is kind of excited with the thought of testing his product on a jet

When i used to use Spring-Air's back in the day,

After the last flight, I would put the plane on stand, retract the gear, zip-tie the strut to the cyl/frame assy., and pack it in the van. Then cut the zip-tie's once home, then repeat the process to go back to the field.

For people using the k-80, is throttle management necessary on this?  I know the falcon 120 needs to be babied a bith with a 19lb turbine but wasnt sure if this one could take all teh k-80 and dish out.
