FOD Screens for JetCat
Hi all,
I'm looking for some FOD screens for JetCat engines, especially for P200SX engines.
The one I got from JetCat is, simply put, not very nice....
The ones from Tam (for P160 etc) was very nice, but I don't think this is availabe for the P200 ?
The screens from JetCat for the smaller engines, with "white/clear" plastic around them, is in my opinion also not too good....
So, anyone know of a good product for this (and yes, I know, I could make my own, but I won't )

I use these on my JetCats:

Not sure if there's one available for the 200.

Hmm,
wonder if the one I have in white/clear plastic is from someone else then!
The ones on JC website also looks like the ones from Todd (black).
So, maybe it only boils down to that it is only the P200SX that is not available ?
A little "funny" that one buys engines to almost 4000 Euros and there is no decent FOD screen available...

RE: FOD Screens for JetCat
Hello guys,
I found a way to adapt the Alszone P-80/P-160 FOD guard to the bigger P-180/P-200.
I have tested this setup on my P-200 for now two months in the most difficult weather conditions, and it has been working very well.
I have not been able to characterize any difference in the max EGT with the FOD on.
I have made one for Darryl and he will be testing it on his Skygate Hawk soon.
Here is a tutorial on how to proceed.
First here is a brand new FOD screen:
The front opening is too small to pass the starter motor assembly reinforcement ridges. So you'll have to place it on the engine and mark the positions where two semi circular openings shall be machined.
Note that the input Festo tubing will be blocked as well, so the base ring will have to be filed as well. Rotate the FOD guard until you find the position where all the machined slots will be positionned between the fastening screws and mark them:
Before machining the plastic rings, you'll have to seal them with thin CA glue. This step is important since the plastic rings will be fragilized after machining if not reinforced.
Then you'll need to take your favorite Dremel tool and machine the starter motor slots with a narrow Permagrit cylinder.
You should leave about 1 mm of plastic on the ring.
That way the starter motor assembly should be a tight fit.
The next thing to do is to machine the tubing slots into the base ring. I use a medium size Permagrit cylinder for this job:

The FOD screen should go easily in now:
I've been using this setup for one year now on the F-18F in the most difficult conditions. No problem reported. Same performance, slightly higher EGT ( about 30°c in desert conditions, un-noticeable in European conditions )

I'd the privilege of getting one first hand from Olivier. [8D]
Carsten one word of caution, the JetCat starter is mounted flexible i.e its self-centering. Very smart but it has to stay this way! Make sure to "dremel" ample space for the tube connectors so the FOD screen/starter motor can move a little bit and is under no tension with the tubes connected.

RE: FOD Screens for JetCat
Great tip
Just did this for my 200sx in a bypass for the ultra bandit.
I modified a jetnet screen 120/160 size. The temps on the ground and throughout are not different enough for me to notice if they are different.
No blockage of air flow since the screen is well inside the OD; not sure if this limits air in much but seems ok.

One shot mine. I had a little play in it and a few bits of the screen were visible (smooth though) so I added a little tubing protection as well. Doesn't push on the starter.
Flew off grass yesterday after installation, amazing number of bugs caught on the screen. Cleaned with an old toothbrush and the vacuum within the bypass.

RE: FOD Screens for JetCat
Nice explanation but I still do not understand how you mount the back of the FOD screen on the turbine!!
To remove it just cut through the silicon with a modelling knife or scalpel. - John.
