RE: HT Modellbau Mirage P20 BUILD THREAD
Dave has posted some pics in the other thread linked above.
Weight of individual parts
Fuselage 794g 1 lb 12 1/8 oz
Fin 62g 2 1/8 oz
carbon intake duct 166g 5 7/8 oz
Cockpit 162g 5 3/4 oz
Hardware pack 90g 3 1/4 oz
Total weight of Airframe parts 1274g OR 2 lb 13 1/2 oz
P20 pipe 74g or 2 5/8 oz
So essentially were an oz shy of 3 lbs before you add retracts/ servos/ engine etc
I have other commitments so dont expect to get started in earnest until the 10th November- Im hopeful for a mid to late November first flight.
Id be keen to hear from anyone else who has flown this model

RE: HT Modellbau Mirage P20 BUILD THREAD
Ive now got my P20, so building has taken on new motivation.
The kits instructions are minimal, and designed for a EDF so dont really tell you anything you couldnt have figured out by yourself.
The ducts are a challenge to fit, but they squeezed in in the end. To allow space for the turbine, Ive removed the inner surface from the final 5" of the ducts.
Fitting servos is also a challenge- the instructions say they used Futaba S3150- Ive looked in the futaba website and the closest JR is the 161 or hitec 5125MG
I do have a pair of JR 3421 so Im trying to fit them. Im just reluctant to use a non coreless servo on a primary flight control of a jet. Probably being silly here.

Ive been busy installing ducts and preparing the model for paint, while doing my best to keep the weight down.
This is my first attempt at airbrushing an entire model.
Im ready to start some gentle weathering, but i was advised by am airfix kit modeller, that the weathering should be applied on top of a coat of varnish.
Is that what people normally do??
(Oh and quick photo of P20 vs P200)

Weathering is usually done on top of the clear coat. That way if you don't like what you get, you can use whatever solvent and not hurt your paint finish.

Any news on the build?
I'm liking this model but am not too keen on the main gear setup. I have posted a picture from one of the links above.
I'm not sure about the forward rake of the gear legs. Has anyone seen how this works in practise? I've also posted another picture I've found from one of Dave's threads that shows it with straight legs so it must be do-able somehow.

What's wrong with the forward rake retracted? I don't think they are raked forward very much down, but it will be to get them in the correct place for the balance point and nice take-off.
Frank works away alot. He had a very "tough" trip to Africa recently

RE: HT Modellbau Mirage P20 BUILD THREAD
Dave,
The pictures above might not show exactly what I mean so I have posted another one. In this case it is a bit like a shopping trolley wheel but backwards (the bottom of the pic is the front of the plane). It might work but goes against my instinct of how things should be done. Having the wheel in front of the retract unit will put extra stress on it as it will always be trying to turn around to trail.
Also, in the new pic, it shows just how big the gear cut-out is compared with the size of the wheel.
Neither of these issues would be a problem if it were a cheap airframe but for the list price of 580 Euros I would expect things to be almost perfect. I'm trying to decide whether to go with this or risk a Aeronaut Rafale conversion. Overall I think the Mirage might be a more suitable airframe but this could end up being the deciding factor.

Darren,
Our 'Stinger' is due a maiden tomorrow with P20, landing gear for this is made for the jet and so fits as it should - trailing link for grass...............

The only issue I ever had with this Mirage was the retract cut outs in the wing and getting it to rotate which I always felt as due to the retract position. Ifeltthe cut outs were too largeand in the wrong location. The kit itself is excellent and looks very good when airbourne.

The scale wheel would be much bigger than you show. I wouldn't worry about the leg bent forward, but I'm sure there are other options on the leg if the wing is thick enough.
Marc S from grass or hard surface? Will be interesting to see how it behaves. Final weight?
HH. All these P-20 threads have a common goal...information, its really early days for this size of model and I think people have a lot to learn

No, decided not to go...dates keep changing and I have to change the computers over to 20% VAT and process loads of orders that came in during the last 24 hours trying to avoid the increase! Also my two daughters chose Hendon (aeroplane museum) as a place for Dad to take them in the afternoon while mum goes to Brentcross[:@]
Enjoy

RE: HT Modellbau Mirage P20 BUILD THREAD
Apologies, its been a slow build- single digit temperatures in my garage have hindered progress!
A few pics attached including the tray Ive built for the turbine equipment, and a pic of the P20 running. EGTs are all normal despite the red hot rear end.
I had to use a 300 and 250ml fuel tank one on top of the other, to stand any chance of getting the fuel over the CG.
If i was building again, I think Id put one each into each wing root-but you cant do that after youve installed the ducting!
I also made a new nose gear former to take the servo, and ive used carbon on the sidewalls in the forward fuselage as the nose gear is quite far forward and I dont fancy the sidewalls chances in the event of the nose gear being ripped out. Cutting a large nose gear door would also weaken it.
I was planning on fitting a nose gear door, servo operated. Im struggling to find a mix on my 12x to simulate the real nose gear door. It closes when the gear is up or down. I was trying to use the SRV slow function with a U shaped curve but if you slow the gear channel, the mixed channel isnt automatically slowed either.
Any ideas?
Dave, it was a tough trip, although purely for altruistic reasons, someone has to buy their curry and drink their beer.

RE: HT Modellbau Mirage P20 BUILD THREAD
hello
do you think the p-20 conversion kit made by alshobbies for the new habu 32 could be adapted to the mirage. particularly the tank ?
