RE: T2J Buckeye giant scale scratch build
The T-2 Buckeye is a great flying mmodel. I now have 70 flights this year alone on my MW54 powered old D&B kit, span about 63 in. I had hoped there might redevelop some interest in the T-2 and a 100 inch version sounds awesome. Few or no T-2As arround to develop scale details, many T-2Cs (eg www.warbirdheritagefoundation.org).
Structurally, single or twin versions with the turbine exhaust cone just at the scale exhaust site give about the correct CG. I put 64 oz kero in two Dubro tanks just in front of the starter bullet. The wing retract mounts need to be extreemly strong to take the impact/twist forces from those long struts. A 105-110 degree retracting NG unit pulls it up. Hydraulics might be required for the heavier MG/struts & wheels of a larger version: I can get mine up with 80+ psi.

Rich,
I have a smaller version of T2J for 12 lbs thrust or EDFn, but the sales volume might not be enough to recoup the cost of developing it. Therefore it's still in the back burner. The larger one might be better for small volume production. This plug that Malcolm has is ready for low volume production as a fun project.
You should think about expanding the size of your thrust can.

Not to be a bother, but isn't the mold you are refering the one that belongs to us which you said you will be shipping back to us with the remaining molds you still have?

Hi Chris.
No. The mold you are referring to is already packed up to ship back per schedule that was given to Cyndy. I have a wood kit that is slightly bigger but still not big enough for the size of turbine that I wish to put in. No plan to develop that unless there is a demand for it to justify the cost of mold making.

Hi Malcolm,
I got in touch with Mike, and he is ready to do 'his' thing.
I have the T2J data files book and the Two Bobs and Airfix plastic kits of the Buckeye, ready to send to Mikes factory.
Just need address details and I will shoot them off to you guys.
This will be one great new style of model on the flightline and in the air.

Yes, after the long journey around half of the earth, the fuselage plug had arrived already in our factory. The wing plug will be CNC soon. After further inspection of the plug, we have decided to stick with the twin configuration. The twin version will be more affordable because of more 80-120N size turbines available at lower price.

RE: T2J Buckeye giant scale scratch build
Mike,
I am very interested in the T-2 model (flew the T-2 during my Navy pilot training). Any idea at all when this might be available to the consumer?
Regards,
Gus
PS I am debating between waiting for the T-2 or going with your F-9F Panther. Will they be about the same size?

The buckeye is a classic jet that just begs to be modelled. A bit like the A6. Hope this comes off.

RE: T2J Buckeye giant scale scratch build
Hi Gus and all
This T2 is bigger than our largest T-33! It will need two 80N or preferred 100N+ engines to fly. We are preparing the plug now.
I have a question for all about the rivet details. These rivets are sticking out and its hard to do a paint job on them. The proposed solution is to make the rivet detail flat with the typical counter sink on those rivets location. For the super detailed model the builder can add resin pinheads over the flat rivets to create realistic rivets. This approach is good for kit builders who want the ability to create super details. For our ARF commercial version we need a model that has rivet details that's straight forward to prepare for painting. We can say that we will do 80-85% scale details on our ARF version while the Top Gun or master scale guys can get the kit version and do a souped up T2. This plane is huge so we need to focus on a sound structural design at this phase.
What do you think about this approach?

RE: T2J Buckeye giant scale scratch build
As with most turbine modelers, I don't have the ability, money or desire to compete at Top Gun, therefore I am much more interested in the 80% solution for scale details that comes at a reasonable price. If the scale guys want to go the extra mile, fine, but I won't pay what it costs for you to go the extra scale mile in the ARF. For what it's worth...

Gus
