Default Rotating doors on Jet Legend Hawk,

So after some head scratching for the outer doors on a Jet Legend Hawk I'm building for a fellow, I finally came up with a solution to allow the doors to remain straight in the airflow while the gear is down, but still rotate flat when the gear retracts.
Sorry for the quality, but here is a cell phone video to show what I did!

Enjoy!

Just a tip from an owner of a JL Hawk. With the trailing link mains when the full weight of the plane is sitting on the gear the wheel will swing up and hit the bottom corner of the strut door. Check out the link on JL Hawks and you can see the solution. You have to cut off the bottom corner of the strut door and attach it to the wing. Hope that helps!

That's the beauty of the door rotating like this, the wheel clears the door even when the strut is completely bottomed out, one of the reasons I wanted it to rotate

Now really! Tell us the truth. This idea REALLY came to after a couple of swigs of that great Canadian adult beverage, didn't it?!?! So this is really good 'ol Canadian engineering when most needed, and it very well could be used elsewhere. You might be getting hits from others that have applied this simple fix, and that's why you and everyone needs to post these kind of fixes! How great!

Very nice work LGM. Thanks for sharing the idea. Where did you get the small springs from?

Craig.

The springs are actually the height adjustment springs from a Humbucking pickup from a guitar. I have a bag of them left over from when I was building guitars. You can get them here:

They are really meant to be used under compression, but they work just fine under tension like this too

The only thing that concerns me with this approach is the spring, in lieu of a mechanism that is stiff (no springs) to prevent the possibility of flutter.

Just a thought....

The spring has a pretty hard pull, when the gear is down the airplane should be below 100mph, there is also a stop on the bracket so that it can only swivel forward far enough to be in line. With the curve of the door the airflow will be pushing it against that stop. When the gear retracts it sits tight on the recess in the wing so at speed it would be impossible for it to flutter.

Great idea. Any chance of a close up picture of the bracket, pivot and stop please?

I'd like to see a close up as well or details on how you made your brackets.
