This is obviously a beautiful plane, as are pretty much all the schemes of the Ultra Flash, particularly the yellow, red and black. Yet, there are too many planes with a similar look/outline of the Ultra Flash. I still think that the Classic Flash has much more personality and looks far more interesting than the Ultra. I've actually ordered the Classic, in a custom scheme [8D]. I hope to be able to share it with you guys before too long.

Hi dave,
only had 4mm tap, plus I only intend using the wing tank as a ground run so not really important. extra joint so I can seal the tank and cap the wing when in transport.
Weight not a problem as I had to add 6oz lead to get CG at 220mm (no cockpit mouldings or pilot).
Yes see you Sunday.

Glyn

Glyn,

That really does look good and I imagine very easy to see, so it will be quite a difficult choice between that and the Shui scheme.

Roger

Here is a good comparison between 'German' scheme and 'Shui' scheme UF's

Nice

Glyn, 1/ It's still important as you are taking air out of that pipe and it wants to be as "free" flowing as possible. 2/ You will need the wing tank, or flight times will be 5 mins! After the Hawk it will be nothing like long enough! I'll bring a 6mm tap Sunday

Hi Dave,
test flew the U/Flash today, you're right I had to use the wing tank to get 8mins flight time.
The model just makes you want to ring it's neck!!
Wierd thing is I had 4mm elev mix with the landing flap and it still ballooned up at quite a rate (with minimal airspeed).
I set a trim on my TX for the mix and trimmed it on the second flight. set it up with a slight pitch down and was amazed how much down it needed
when I checked it on the ground, about 10mm! That's with the CG at 220mm (dead on the servo cover corner screw)
Cracking model to fly though, totally different animal to the old Flash. It's more like a Bandit than you could imagine, so aerodynamic and so quiet!.
Only got the two flights in as there was a 15mph crosswind and not much pleasure in the landings. Can't wait to get some more air under the wings!
Rgds,
Glyn.........

Is the Ultra Flash an improvement in flying & landing characteristics than the normal Flash? I think the old Flash looks better.
I like my old Flash, but had lots of problems landing it, until I got the elevator expo, flaps & flap/elevator mix just right. I found everything had to be so exact to get it to land easily.
I now have to counter the climb at full throttle. In stages, I am slowly mixing in some down elevator with throttle. Just wondering if changing the thrust angle of the turbine would be a better option? I am using a Merlin 140. Goes like a rocket.

!! climb under power? I've flown 30+ Flashes and none climb.
Changing the turbine angle does nothing. Is it a stock tail pipe? you need to raise the tail pipe at the front 5mm. Stock bye pass and pipe??

Ultra lands really well with the classic drag/flap set up. The older Flash needs CROW to land easily

Dave. Everything is standard, although not using a bypass. I am using about 7mm of crow to land. It is only at top speed that it climbs. With the Merlin 140, it is shifting pretty quickly flat out. If the throttle/elevator mix sorts it out, it will be easier than trying to alter the pipe & turbine angles. I will just have to be carefull when taking off & not use full power. I had more mix in earlier & took off at full power, then relaxed the elevator & had to quickly feed it back in as the jet dived to the ground. If it is still a problem, I may install my merlin 90.
See you at jetpower. There are about twenty from Cyprus coming.

That does look like a FAAST scheme. How ironic it being designed by a holy JR 'boy'

Hi Dave,
sorted! only got the tiniest bubble in the UAT now after a full flight!
I was waiting for a quiet spot (at West Raynham) to fly my U/Flash but the heavens opened up before I got a chance. As i'd only had a couple of flights the day before,
I wasn't comfortable to fly a virtually unknown plane in unfamiliar surroundings. I went back to our own strip and put a couple more flights on it. Just about dialled in now.
What an aeroplane! Tell you what, I recon Comp ARF have got a Bandit beater with this one, I much prefer it to my bandit. It's bigger, stronger, much easier to put together at the field,
and a real joy to fly. Oh, and I forgot, only just over half the cost!!
Put another couple of tanks through it today and I really love it. It's far superior to the old flash, trust me I've owned a couple over the years.
I flew my 6th scale F-16 this morning fully tooled up and thought it was a buzz to fly (I really prefer planes that look like the real thing). I went back in the afternoon with the U/Flash
and 30secs after take off I had a grin from ear to ear! It's just what you need after the big scale jets. A chance to practice and hone your aerobatic skills and proper balls out fun!
This silver black orange scheme really rocks in the air, it's absolutely perfect on the Ultra Flash.
I'm in a really good place at the moment, really feel like I 've got it all!
Rgds,
Glyn...........

I am going to be honest and say that I was not the biggest fan of the standard Flash.. But the Ultra seems to be a different kettle of fish. The only thing that I was not sure about was the stock colours. I liked the green one ( Obviously ) But seeing the silver one of Glyn's at the weekend totally changed my mind! Its a lovely scheme, and with a slightly more vivid Orange I reckon it would really pop. I have a customer wanting to order a special scheme, and I am hoping he will go with something along the lines of Glyn's model, as I may have to get one for myself. I had a Yellow ( German flag scheme ) on order, but I think I might just have to drop that one into stock and wait for a custom colour to turn up.
Regards Al
