Might want to add in something R/C Jet related - our last Shuttle thread was "Dunked" into the full scale forum [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9760234/mpage_9/key_/tm.htm]here[/link]. Just sayin'...

Guess there is no way to prevent what I consider an awesome video experience from morphing into a spirited political diatribe that occured on that thread starting on post #19........so hope everyone enjoys this one while it lasts.......

Absolutely beautiful imagery. Really awesome stuff!

Has anyone ever seen much in-cockpit reentry footage? That's a part of the program that just doesn't get much interest for some reason. I'd love to see this kind of imagery from the shuttle itself upon reentry.

I've seen some. Not really all that awesome. Just a pink glow can be seen through the forward windows (the plasma surrounding the Orbiter). But there is a pulsating, flashing light that comes through the two overhead flight deck windows. It is the two plasma tubes that form and dance about, trailing the Orbiter. As they pass over the overhead windows, there are some transient flashes.

That looks like you were on the Causeway, between the KSC side and the Air Force. Is that right? That is where I saw STS-3 L/O from in 1982.

Anyone know what date the last Shuttle launch is? Hoping to travel over from the UK to see it live.

Rob.

That depends on a lot. The penciled in date for STS-134 (Endeavor's final ride up-hill) is April 1st 2011. But that can change in a heart beat, especially with the uncertainty of the flight rationale for the cracked stringers on ET-137 (the testing of which will ruin the week between Christmas and new year's for me!). So that will likely be the very earliest that STS-134 will fly. It is VERY likely that we will fly the one final additional mission, STS-135 (Atlantis' REAL final voyage). The notional launch date is late June, but the later it can be pushed back, the better it is for ISS contingencies (also the higher the cost). So it could possibly go as late as September or October 2011, or not at all......

Either way, these final launches are creating a huge situation at KSC. There are going to be soooooooooo many folks wanting to witness a lauch before the end of the program that it is going to be VERY tough to get a good vantage point, not to mention the trafic and accomodations.
