I think this post answers it . . .

[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1957131/printable.htm]Elevons vs Ailevators[/link]

I would still like to hear peoples views etc . . .

Ive got a 10x and DX7 so the 10CG is little bit of a change, no better or worse but the programming flow is certainly different!

I have seen the Avonds F-15(Ram 750 powered).... flown on Tailerons alone and landed with no flaps...flew great,
rolls were fine, landings were slow and picture perfect.
Its amazing how much better the same platform flies minus a few pounds.

Been flying an avonds f15 for over 5 years now with tailerons only (think they should be called tailerons- think elevons applies to a delta - but that is for another post) no flaps it doesn't need them. Just set it up as per avonds instructions and you won't have any issues.

Mine weighs 21.5lbs dry and runs on a jetcat 120 one thing I don't have is the gear doors plus air system fitted, apart from that it is a standard set up.

On Futaba radio's the Alivator function is a standard mix without using a P-Mix that allows dual elevator servo's to mimic the ailerons on a conventional airframe, hence Alivators, in the aircraft set up programme under wing type you can specify the amount of servo's in the wing and if the airframe is a Tailless type, also you can have winglets that allows dual Rudders again without using a P-Mix and all the trims work as normal.

Hope this helps

The Alivator function on my radio is to allow me to fly as well as Ali, special programme only for me, but does not work as well as it should. LOL

On my JR 10X I use the Elevon wing type but whatever setting you use, find the setting that works as follow for aileron/elevator mix. If I remember correctly my Eagle works like this

Forpitch both stabs must match; forpitch up the stab leading edges deflectDOWN and the trailing edges deflect UP.

Down elevator the leading edges deflectUP and the trailing edges deflectsDOWN.

For right alieron theright stab leading edge deflects down and thetrailing edge deflects up, the left aileronleading edge deflects up andtrailing edge deflects down.

For left aileron the left stab leading edgedeflects down and the trailing edge deflects up, the right stab leading edge deflects up and the trailing edge deflects down.

To visualize it watch the trailing edges of the stabs, for aileron input they should function as a typical wing, right turn the rightstab trailingedge deflects up and the left stab trailing edgedeflects down. For left aileronthe left stab trailing edge deflects up and the right stab trailingdeflects down. Pitch up both trailing edges deflect up,Pitch down both trailing edges deflect down.

Hey Scott, I'm running a P-80. If flys well with 22lbs of push at around 25 pounds with fuel.

Mark,

You are obviously a man of taste as your colour scheme is the same as mine.

Mine is 21.5 Lbs dry can carry up to 4 litres of fuel but I find that 3.25lbs is plenty for 7 mins flying plus groud running, taxiing etc, take off weight approx 26-27 lbs but with a Jetcat P120 (27 lbs) providing the push it has plenty of go.

Mine has tailerons only and mini servos for the rudder jet tech Kevlar tanks 8 mins and theres still a lot left! and a 30lbs 120Sx 22.5 lbs with full uat check YouTube totialberto
Doesn't need ailerons but I was also thinking of putting flaps for scale looks would 5kg mini servos work? Do I have to use ailerons when I have the flaps down or would it work with the tailerons?

Siddus...Sorry I don't know the weight of the one that flys here. Just an observation
the Avonds does seem to fly better than lets say the FEJ- F-15, it handles as if its flying "on the wing"
more than just plowing through the air.
They seem to fly "lighter" and without the extra servos and wiring ....they should.
The guys flying them bare bones are pretty happy... heck...save the big servos and money
for something that really needs it...like... opening and closing the cockpit canopy for that extra gota have...way cool factor.
