The P-20's are here, What do you think ?
Trying to do something a little different. I'm no builder from scratch so had to take a look at what is out there
in the ARF catagory. This is the Nitro planes Cessna Citation (i think). They call it something else. The weight of
the airframe etc. comes in at about 8 # the two P-20's with support equipment is just over 2#. I need to come
up with retracts, wheels assy's to get those weights along with fuel tanks but i'm thinking it will be in the
neighborhood of 12 to 13# dry. The weight of the bare P-20 is an once lighter than the electric fan/motor
combo, so getting the balance should be ok. What i'm not sure of is if the turbine would need a short pipe?
It would be somewhere in the 5 to 6 inches from the trailing end of the nacelle. On that same note, the turbine
could be moved forward or back on the mounting rail,,,,, would performance be affected much by having it
closer to the front of the nacelle or set back a bit futher. I'm not sure if moving it foe or aft will make it harder
to balance or not, there is a lot of room to move the support equiptment to get balance.
Any how, idea's and suggestions are always welcome................

I would seriously suggest a good heat protection around the nozzle side of the nacelle. This looks like a great project for 2xP20.

Hi niteflyer.
You are going to need a pipe for sure, and that model is going to be well over powered with those P-20's. Get ready to be flying at half power allot of the time ( Nothing wrong with that) Just make sure the airframe is strong enough to cope with going quite fast if you are planning on pinning the throttles.

Mmmmm not sure about those stabs. In the event of a hot start ( Which I have had a couple of when running gas start in the cold weather we have here right now) they are bound to suffer.
Not sure how they will cope under normal conditions. I would be tempted to put some form of heat proofing on them ( Silver Heat resistant tape) But thats adding a fair amount of weight at exactly the wrong area.

Thanks for chiming in. Just the information i'm hoping to find. This one is not the one i will grab when i feel the need for speed ! I am looking at
a dry weight around 12 to 13 pounds so weight to power is OK ? Still looking for some gear that will fit the bill to get weight on those. Was hoping
for some short trailing link ones but Todd at D.W. don't think he can help ?? Hope to have some more pic's, and progress shortly......

Thanks for the heads up Baldeagle. I didn't find the custom made section but as you said scrolling
thru his already built units i found what i needed at a pretty fair price which makes up for the high
shipping. Gear with retracts, wheels and brakes are on their way. Now i need to call Tam Jets
and get him going on the pipes.

Going to have room to mount main tanks on the CG. Looking at a couple locations
to mount the 2 UAT's, they will be used to help with the balance. They are a long
distance from the turbine but will also have the fuel pumps up front and JetCat also
recommends having a longer fuel line to the turbine to help stabalize fuel pressure.
Balance over all is still looking attainable. Received the gear package from Digetec
but i calculated the inch to mm wrong so got too long of struts. New ones were ordered
yesterday ;-(

Well i got the second set of struts from Digitech (man they ship fast-5 days from the Netherlands to my door) and
they are spot on. No problem with the first set, just that they were too long BUT they will be just right for the good ole
boomerang that still dances around on the original wires :::
It only took some very minimal grinding to get the wheel tube to sit in a fraction lower so the wheel fits comfortably
in it now.
I also ordered the shortest trailing link struts Digitech had in the 250 series and have been doing a little drilling and
grinding on one of those and think it is going to be great for the nose. Making it into a dual wheel nose application. I
have the retract mounted on top of the original mounting blocks and that should get me a nice stance with the nose
being oh so slightly lower than the mains.
P.S. It is still a paing in the #@>< to get pictures to load up ? Whats the deal with that ??????????

Well got some work done on the front retract. Was looking oh so good up until it was retracted and
the wheels still stick out the bottom of the fuse a half inch. Darn. Was thinking of setting up some front
gear doors but now that is a back burner thing. Putting a little carbon cloth around the retract mount
in hopes of no issues there. Tam has my pipes made up and i can start working on getting those mounts
hysoled in.

Why not put some timber wedges under the retract mount this would put the wheels inside the fus and give you a small amount of trailing leg when extended which will improve straight line tracking.

I think they are really cool although a little expensive for such a small turbine. As if a bigger turbine wasnt expensive, but these are like the same price for a smaller engine.
But if its what turns you on, go for it. I've certainly spent lots of money of things that made people shake their heads before so who am I to judge

Well i haven't been to productive in the shop as of late. Just needed to get out..................
So now we've been back from Florida Jets for a couple weeks and have been inspired.
More so from the weather, 80 degrees and sunshine for four days straight can do that. The
show its self was great. I still vote for asphalt over grass but it looked like it was manageable.
As for the project on the bench, i got the pipes from Tam just before we left. They are some little
works of art and i think they will work great. Making some alum extension to extend the engine mount
rail aft far enough to mount the pipe and making some small wire rings to hold the tail in the center
of the nacell.
The gear is all done, they came out great and with the previous suggestion of the wedge in the nose
gear the front wheels fit nicely into the fusalage.
Were making some head way again and will get more photo's soon.........
