While the Flap horn and hinges dry I thought I'd complete the U/C ready to be fitted at a later date. The brakes are great, double pad either side of a steel disc. Ball raced wheels.

Hi Christian,

Your Vampire kit is one of a couple kits with design for the fuselage flap, using a thinner servo, eg JR DS 378 or Savox SH 256. That is a quietly ideal design DerJet initially make for. Considering the insufficient torque of a thinner servo, we made a change on it for common use of the standard servo. Grauper 3288, which we did not survey before, is a better one used for the fuselage flap. Hope you can keep it originally assembled using the thinner servo, and we shall send the servo mount and its parts to your need as soon as possible. Thank you for purchasing DerJet DH-100 Vampire.

Best Regards

Jack, director of DerJet Model

I have always found their response excellent!

Jack and all the Derjet staff deal with enquiries we make as a dealer in a very quick and positive manner, I am very happy to be a DerJet dealer.

Working on the gear door fixing in the wings. To get the offset hinges working right the fixing needs to be as close to the skin as possible. I couldn't find the mini mirror I normally use, but found the DSX-12 USB disc worked well!!
I slit the foam with a scalple and then cleaned the foam away with a perma-grit flat file. The great thing about these is the can be bent! then bent back!! (you need two if you ever want one for filing straight lines )
You can just see the pad area cleared above the letters on the disc.

Retract units and wheels ready for installation, axle fixing needs loctite and I added some grease. The cylinders were pressure tested and all fine.
Door door hinges in position.

Spent too long looking at this, but decided to go a different way. I had a pair of Robart 165S short cylinders in my workshop and prefering large diameter cylnders, I decided to go this route. I also did not want the cylinder in the wheel opening, so went this way. Straight ram and good leverage-plus I can get to the two mounting screws and remove if needed.

Christian

Interesting, I had always presumed they cut it so that if the nose door closed slightly on landing the nose wheel tyre could touch it when the leg compressed and burst the tyre!? I saw the prototype only had a square door and that the T version had the whole corner removed (I thought more travel heavier aeroplane!)
Well, you learn every minute, everyday
Thanks

C

Yes, you can easily reach the top screw and remove it, then turn the cylinder 90 degrees on bottom screw, then it is clear to reach and remove.

The corner cut out on the noseleg door was to prevent the wheel from damaging the door or being damaged when the strut is under compression and the nosewheel being fully castored did this on the prototype when being pushed around on the ground, not to access any internals in the nosewheel bay.

Watching this thread with interest.

Hi Christian,
The servo mount and parts you need are sent to you by EMS this Tuesday.
Here's a few pictures of fuselage servo instillation using a thinner servo for your Vampire. The horn is needed to be cut and modified as a linkage of the servo arm.
Hoped to see your work done soon.

New Build at Hatcher's Hangar after Fla Jets.
Just arrived from Der Jet. Eric Clapp's personal plane.
The build will start right after Fla Jets. The plane will be on display at Fla Jets. Also another Vampire will be flying daily.
Will be flown at Ky Jets. Will have Jet Central Rabbit in it for Power. The finish on this plane is better than the Cougar and I thought that one was good.
A Few photos to show it off. The Decals are coming soon.
