Well, I maidened my A10 today, and everything went great had two awesome flights,, with no issues at all. very little trim was needed.. She fly's great and lands even better...
I reinforced the tail for added piece of mind...

I hope this is an isolated incident, but one has to wonder since it happend while using two P160's if it was overpowered through the loop,, unless the engines were tuned down, the're still putting out well over 30lbs total thrust at half throttle.
In any case having seen what happend and what the inside looks like after Anton posted that picture of it cut open.
I went into the tail yesterday and added pieces of hard wood and balsa and nearly two tubes of hysol so now the ribs on the sides the upper and lower pieces of plywood the screw guide tubes and the rear former are all tied into each other. Better safe than sorry......... Ron

Did that extra weight in the tail change your CG much ?

I made the jet slightly nose heavy to begin with. The extra weight really had no effect .. it flew great....
It's worth going into the tail to reinforce it... The extra weight is a small price to pay when you think of what can happen
If you don't do it.

HI all, I weighted a Skymaster A-10 at a Jet rally last year, and dry it was 57lbs. 10 ozs., no ordinance.
Also weighted was a Mibo A-10 at 55lbs dry.
And they all flew great.
Rcpete
PS, I would estimate Ron, that you have 8 litres of fuel.

Just received this picture from Skymaster showing me what my stab looks like after the strengthening mod they did to the stab of my A10. It is due to leave the factory this week supposedly. Thought I'd post it for the curious!

I just finished the modifications with quite a few layers of CF, some wood structures I built in across top, botton and the tube guide...... very very stong.
My Stab when I opened was in very good shape and the joint of the screw wood plate to the spar was quite solid..... but just in case I did the modifications. The pictures provided by SM was just perfect, Thanks Anton and John.

Check out the nice cover that I did in front! with pleanty of space to do all the modifications you need and without cutting the nice bottom surface.

Enjoy,

Gonzalo

I had the pleasure of seeing Gonzalo fly his A-10 this weekend and it was incredible! I can not believe how docile the plane is to land. Great job Gonzalo!!

Thank you Gonzalo tocayo! who knows.... I might be able to combine a business trip and stop by in Santiago! A few months ago I was in Sao Paulo.
Perhaps a group of us can visit one of the cool events you guys run there...... we should try for Ali to come there too.

Enjoy your A10! I LOVE mine!!! I can't imagine you would have it ready in a few more weeks!

I think that the idea is to plan a big jet event in Santiago for next year and that would work as the big celebration of the opening of our new club. Now I need to assemble a Tucano TP, a Marchetti TP and a CT-114 from Comp Arf. Still, 80 or 90% of the fleet down here is Skymaster. Maybe Anton can sponsor the event

Plenty of planes for you to fly down here.... and a couple of Varios.

I will keep you posted on the event.

A fly by of our new club
