RE: AMA update to Experimental Class for Turbines
As an Experimental waiver holder I just received an email from the AMA announcing the changes to the program, now called the Large Model Aircraft Program. LOTS of changes and most for the better from the quick look I have had at the document. A few highlights;
- Turbines 55 to 77.2 lbs (LTMA-1) can be "self-inspected", although you still need a CD, Leader Member or Inspector to witness a flight.
- Turbines 77.3 to 100 lbs (LTMA-2) still need an inspector
- Max total thrust for LTMA-1 is 75 lbs
- Max total thrust for LTMA-2 is 90 lbs
- Relief on the 200' "setback" distance to spectators at AMA sanctioned events (this has been a gray area, now clarified)
Also a number of other detail changes on contruction and servo torque. For those of us with current waivers and for anyone else considering an LTMA-1 (up to 77.2 lbs), the self-inspection provision is a great improvement.
