I had a thought to skip straight to the Futura. But i am a little hesitant to jump the gun. Would love to just start a Futura and P100 though... I'm drooling already.
Go straight with the Futura : this plane is a winner and a trainer to fly !

Hi Nhalyn,

I see futura in your profile picture. I love this jet and I recently received one, box lying in my work shop waiting to be assembled. Collecting STUFF these days

The one I got is 1.9M one. Could you please tell the best suitable servos for Elevators/Ailerons/Flaps/Rudder/Nose gear from Hitec brand?

Can you please post picrtures of your Futura color scheme if possible?

What turbine you are using in this model?

Regards,

Sunny.

Building also thefutura 1.9 I have foreseen the same servos I used for the Viperjet:HS-7985 everywhere, except nose gear HS-5645.
I shall use the P-140RX, perhaps limit the max thrust for the first flights.

Regards

Hi Sunny !

My Futura is the big one with 2.50m wingspan.

Servos for the small one ? I fact I don't know for sure. Something around 10 to 12kg/cm torque should be OK. A Jetcat 140RX is a huge turbine for this model !!! Crazy guy you are ! Don't you have seen the Ali's Videos with the Jetcat P80SE ???

P-80SE in mine and stick @ 3/4 for that run so its got plenty of speed in it on that combo.

There was one chap flying his on P-160(SX?) in Germany, think there is a post earlier in this thread with details.

Yeah Selleri,

Anything above 80 or 100 will be an over kill. But again you know some people like HardCore stuff

Cheers,

Sunny.

K140F coming for mine next week. Agree, overkill for the small Futura but gives me scope to move up to a larger Eurofighter which is a model I've wanted for a long time.

I've never seen any YouTube vid of a P160SX in one. That really would be crazy fast.

Sorry, changed HS-5646 to HS-5645. I had it on stock, you may also go for a 7985 so you have just one type.
As for my experience with the P80SE I first thought to go for the P100RX, but some buddies persuade me to buy the P140-R(keepin in mind future projects). Shall limit the thrust for the first flight and keep you informed.

Here some link to a german forum of the Futura:www.rc-network.de/forum/showthread.php/145451-Futura-von-Tomahawk-Design/page3

you also may find some video with the P160 powered plane in this thread.

Seems to fly slow also

Dom, you mean Eurofighter of CARF? I also love it if that is the one you want, the simple one not the 3D version...

Default RE: Futura 1.9m Build

One of my good friends (Lars Robert) asked me to assemble his 1.9M Futura, and I gladly accepted, knowing that the plane would be in perfect "Tomahawk quality", and that there were some good tips from Ali in this thread
The plane arrived on a monday afternoon, wednesday the following week I had it finished and programmed in his 14MZ radio, all of this while doing my usual dayjob.
It's so easy to assemble this plane, of course it helped that I had done my 2.5M Futura first, but the quality and fit of the parts made this one a "no brainer"!
Engine is a P160SX (!), at the moment turned down to 10Kg, but I fear the Lars Robert will soon change that (luckily he is a master at "throttle control" ), servos are Graupner DES707 all over.

Picture from maiden flight, plane has some temporary stickers on it, Lars Robert is doing some vinyl design at the moment

René,
the 1.9 meter version with the P160SX weights 9.7 Kg with fuel in the header tank, and 11.9 with with fuel in the main tank (both the header and main tank is the standard ones from Tomahawk)
There is a build thread on our local Danish jetforum (I know, in danish, but the pictures are universal) here (the first two pages is chit-chat about colorschemes ):

16kg turbine in a 10kg airplane ?

How long does it will be to see an 30kg turbine in a 10kg airplane ??? [][:'(]

Where does will stop the weight/push ratio competition ???

Surely at the point where you have to put so much fuel in the jet that it flies like a pig.

How long do you get on the standard Futura 2.8L tank with a P160SX? Probably not that long I would guess.

EDIT: Although looking at the fuel consumption figures probably only a little less than my Kingtech K140F because that uses 14oz/min and the P160SX uses 17 oz/min. Not that I've had the bottle to pull the throttle stick over half way on mine yet.

I didn't know there was a competition going on ?
The P160SX was one my friend had as a spare, it is mounted in the Futura, and turned down to 10 Kg. Has he lost the "competition" then

Sûre ! You are right and your friend is doing it the right way. But how long does he will let his p160 as low as 10kg ? This is not everybody that let turbines downgraded... This is not the first P160 turbinized small Futura !
