Gents,

A quick update. It took me a while to find a warehouse so finally we moved the model and this is what we have done up to date. Still looking for someone to build the LG for me, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thomas,

Thanks for the info. I sent an email to Lenny from shinden and see what he has to say. By the way your project is looking really good, I've been running around all of Palm beach looking for a place that makes lithography so I can grab a few aluminum sheets and it appears everyone is outsourcing the work overseas. Figures!!!

Yea lithography is a lost art now with all these laser printers and all. The best luck i have found, are small towns in the country that have a small newspaper that a local printer does. Unforunately, even places like that are getting hard to find. I'm not even sure if my source is still available b/c the owner was talking about retiring b/c he couldn't compete with the laser printers in terms of speed and it wasn't economically feasible for him to spend $60,000+ on new printers at the age of 56.

Have you tried Glennis for the struts and wheels? They custom make them all the time. Lance Campbell used them for his giant SR-71 and loved the work they did for him.

Ianober,

That is correct, we decided to glass it open to save on materials and it worked out prety well. We place 2 layers of 3 oz cloth for strength.

Andy,

I believe I contacted Glennis via email and they advised me they don't make scale tires or LG anymore. If you have a point of contact that would be great. Thanks for the assistance.

Great project! Did I see a live picture of the full scale retracting the gear outward and slightly forward? I have 2 of the 70 mm fan SU-34s and they have a wrong direction nose gear and a front back retracting set of single tandem for mains. I 1992 I saw the general type of this aircraft performing in the full scale mode in Fairbanks, Ak on the first performance of the Russian #1 aerobatic team in bluish colored SU-27s. I watched it with USAF F-16 pilots from Eilson AFB and we were completly blown away! The lead pilot did a cobra about 700 feet above the ground! It was in celebration of the 50 year annivesary of the Soviet/USA lend lease program of WWII. They had about 40 pilots there that had ferried P-39s, B-25s and such to Russia from Alaska after 1942. Again, great project!!! Wallace L. Tharp USAF RCO

Wallace,

First I want to say thank you for your service. It took me almost 3 months to get the designed the rotation of the gear in 3d max. The rotation is in a way similar to the B-58 Husler. Now what I need is to find someone to build the LG. A friend of mine Paul, is looking at the gear but he has so many projects that I'm not sure if he will be able to tackle it.

I personally have not seen the full scale Su-34 fly but I saw the first western flight of the Mig 29/Su-27 at the paris airshow, at the time I was stationed in Germany so it was great to take the bus ride to paris. If you happened to have any pics of the 34 you would like to share I would greatly appreciate it.

Jo, you are welcome, & re your request to see a retraction of the gear on a SU-34, I found one on U-tube, and I can't remember how I got to it, but, try a search of SU-34, and similar Russian fighters. Memory servs correct it was on a Russian airfield and may have been during a test of the airplane. I had the pleasure of seeing a B-58 twice. Once at Lacklnad AFB in basic training. It was in the pattern at a nearby base, Kelly I think. Second time, and you two can see this one and hundreds of other really great war bird stuff, boneyard, Davis Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ. Again, "great project!" Keep the pix and info coming. Sincerely, Wallace L. Tharp USAF RCO

That's the video I used to generate the landing gear rotation files. I even contacted the outstanding artist that rendered that video for assistance. I have search google for almost a year bought almost every book available on the SU family trying to get as much info/ detail as possible on this model, unless I contact Sukhoi itself I have to work with what I have right now. I wonder if I take a trip to Russia will they let me take a tour of the factory?

Thanks for the vid.

Wallace,

Thanks. I only wish they have a good video with a chase plane or a Sukhoi video showing upclose the entire rotation. Due to the large size and weight of the LG I decided to go hydraulics instead of pneumatic, unless you guys think electric is the way to go.

John at Matrix Manufacturing is the very best in my opinion. he is used to working with protoyping and very large scale projects. He did some very good work for me on a Large F-16 project.

Here is his website and will have his email and phone on it...

best of luck,
