original oil and feulpump sophia j850
Hi There,
Does anyone have a original feul and oil pump i can use for the sophia j850 turbine?
i have a sophia , but there are no pumps with it.
I also need software (i have the ecu ) to start ,and manual.
any ideas?
Best regards,
Martin.

I think it unlikely Joe will be able to help you as I had his last pump and unfortunately it’s not for sale.
You could go for a Flightworks pump which would be compatible as the ecu from a default condition will set its own pump parameters, within reason.
I imagine you understand the engine is designed to run on panel whipe? As I did with my 850s you could convert to oil in the fuel, its quite simple to do you just need to “T†the fuel supply to the lubrication inlet with a suitable restrictor in the pipe. I used a hypodermic needle a la Jetcat. This I found to be a more satisfactory system as the original oil pumps were a constant source of trouble.
If I can be of any more help, just shout!

RE: original oil and feulpump sophia j850
Thank you Mick for the info.
it was also my idea to change the lube , because i think the second pump for oill isnt nessesary.
I have a sophia that has the electronics from jetcat.
what i dont know is how much pressure do i need for the feulsystem of the engine.
i thought it doesnt need propane gas to start ,but i will do it because i think it will be a lot easyer.
I have the original ecu , but just need the pump.
I will try it with the F W pump ,but what type do you think i have to order an A200?
Thanks,
Martin.

Which ecu do you have because it’s unlikely to run properly on Jetcat parameters? The Sophia ecu is the same manufacture as Jetcat but there the similarity ends.
I doubt you will be able to start your engine on propane; there is no provision for it.
Do you have the instruction manual?
As far as fuel pump compatibility I don’t actually know but I would have thought the 200 to be a little small as the 850 relies on high pressure delivery to atomise the fuel adequately.

RE: original oil and feulpump sophia j850
so the starting is direct on kerosine?
thats even nicer .
no ,i dont have the manual ,do you have it ?
HHHmm ,what do you think ,the A400 then ,thats the biggest pump.
do you know what the pressure is the pumps need to have .
yes i know there are no vaporizor tubes in it ,but very small holes ,that are spraying the feul in.
I like the design.
Regards,
Martin.

No it doesn't run on kero, it runs on pannel whipe!
The pump pressure is erelevent, the ecu will set the pump voltage during the optimise function.

If you want a strip down and rebuild web site look at Thomas Baumgart, who had one that was not running and managed to get his to run well.
http://www.technologie-entwicklung.d...hia_story.html
The bearings are special GMN bearings
The fuel is Panel wipe
http://www.alexshanks.com/index.php?...tm_medium=base
This is unfortunately more expensive than Kerosene.
If you want info on the ECU why not contact Marcus at JetCat.

Thank you for all the info.
I am going to email marcus right away.
Are there more things i need to know.
what do think of the ecu ,is that the original one?
Mick do you have any pictures or videos of your engine?
i am very interrested in all the info.
Thanks,
Martin.

Hi Mick, by any chance do you know the part number of the GMN bearings for the 850? I have an 850 which is still running and love the sound of it!

Yes I have always had good results...I still use the original oil pump as well so one has to be very careful that the oil goes through otherwise you will not have an engine within 5 seconds from start-up! For fuel I use kerosene mixed with panel wipe which is a type of refined petrol.
One has to be careful at start up so that if the engine does not start immediately one has to stop and remove excess fuel. If not you will have a wet start flame thrower in which case you have to keep on pumping air through the system until the excess fuel is spent.

The only danger I see if you are using the original two pump system is that you have to be 100% sure that the oil pump does work. Consequently before flying this has to be checked for a kinked pipe inside the oil dosing pump system. That is of the utmost importance for continued operations.

Yes,but isnt there a way to delete the oil pump and let the compressor pressure a small tank with a pipe thats going to the bearings .
Seems a lot easyer to me.

As for the ECU I doubt it if JETCAT can help you on this as the ECU was one of the earliest versions. Infact my version of the ECU is different to the one shown in this thread. Well probably they are the same but the cover is completely different. My friend had to repair the ECU and was sent to Horst Lenerz who had designed the original ECU. It had taken a long time to get it partially fixed so if the ECU goes I dont know what else to do.

Undoubtedly, if one is able to make alterations to the system one avoids a lot of hassel with the oil feed. Unfortunately I am not capable of doing such changes to the engine. Anyway, I never had the need to open the engine up except for cleaning the fuel filter and fuel pipe change underneath the front cover.

Ok take note of the bearings number. I just found an old thread discussion on the Sophia.
From GMN
HYS609CTA A7DUL (ID9mmxOD24mmxW7mm)
