How many Jet Jocks are considering dumping 2.4 and going back to 72mhz?

RE: How many Jet Jocks are considering dumping 2.4 and going back to 72mhz?
Hi Andy,
Sorry about the Boomer. Out of all the guys in the Nashville jet band, I think I am the only one using Futaba. That means everyone else is successfully using JR in jets. And most all of us are using 2.4 regularly.
And you know how much Scott and Randy fly. I wouldn't give up on 2.4 (or JR for that matter) just yet.
Cheers,
Chris

RE: How many Jet Jocks are considering dumping 2.4 and going back to 72mhz?
actually I did have a total lockout a couple weeks ago, but before I took off the BEC had come unplugged when i pushed the battery into the plane. It was my guess that the BEC had just become unplugged again in flight(my own fault). I had 150 flights on the plane without a problem and then it mysteriously locked out right after I had the BEC become uplugged. I doubt it was the 2.4 system. It was more than likely my fault for not securing the connection.

Hey Rich,
Brother Bill flew the Bonner 4 channel and I had the 8 channel, great radios, lousy servo reliablity, but they don't hold a stone to 2.4. Since switching to 2.4 flying is so much more solid, until I had my first lockout experience last year, and no repeat since with same airplane, same reciever and no change to setup, just the location. The experience reminded me of what flying with PCM used to be like.

I have to say, reason 2.4 is failing is human error. After all we are all human and forget something until after the fact....
I had a bought a nice 2.4 ghz phone, lasted my wife and I 3 years, then it failed. Phillips brand. Scary stuff, I guess if point is to be made, everything will break....
(and read the fine print)

the problem with 72mhz is that 9 out of 10 foamies sold in the us go to non AMA members. who use our old 72mhs equipment and don't care if it is in a plans, car, boat, etc. or about getting to close to other flying sites. hold your 72mhz equipment for five years and the wave will pass and it will be solid.

I fly 2.4, been perfect since day one. Can not say that for 72 mhz and I go all the way back the the days 27 mhz.

PS: I think a lot of peoples problems are they do not show enought respec for the batteries that power their systems. batteries are the weak link in all radio systems bar none.

I lost too many airplanes on 72 to even give it a thought of going back! I'm on 2.4 forever. I have seen the battery applications on some installations, and it makes me very concerned to see what some are using for power. The battery is probably the main reason for problems. Also along with battery, the chargers are far insufficient for the applications.

RE: How many Jet Jocks are considering dumping 2.4 and going back to 72mhz?
I will never go back. 3 years of flying without a problem. Hundred's of flights at several jet shows with no problems. Prior to 2.4 I saw planes shot down every weekend at our "public park". No doubt I would have lost a jet in this time period to lazy, rude, careless about others that fly at a public park. We used to have to hunt them down to get our turn at the frequency and many times they were sitting under the hut talking. If a person got the frequency it was theirs until someone hunted them down and took it from them.
Not to mention showing up at the field on channel 52 only to find that there are 4 guys on 52 today and channel 36 has nobody. What a pain. Maybe at some small private fields 72 was not a problem but it was at larger/more crowded parks. All those problems are gone and it is rare for anyone to claim they lost the radio or got hit nowadays...

RE: How many Jet Jocks are considering dumping 2.4 and going back to 72mhz?
I'm thinking of going back to 72mhz myself .. seeing the big antenna in front of me, and a nice long whip out of my jet ... its like almost being able to see the waves of the RF link between the TX and the jet. With 2.4 i cant see anything, and i just don't trust that little stubby plastic transmitter antenna .. Would you jump into a pool if you could not see the water?

No more 2.4 lockouts or kero fires for me either.
These are going back to all my planes.

Flying Futaba FASST since the day it came out, ZERO issues in heli's, Jets, electrics and IC.
Fantastic system, would never go back to 35meg (UK).
