Default How Do You Run Two 2.4 Receivers in One Aircraft?

I've read that pilots connect one receiver to each side of their airplane for redundancy. With model-matching, binding, etc., I'm wondering exactly how you get multiple receivers in a single aircraft.

Looking forward to the answer!

Default RE: How Do You Run Two 2.4 Receivers in One Aircraft?

I have been pondering this with my 1st jet but will probably not do it, with my futaba 14mz I can bind two receivers and just plug half the aircraft into one receiver and the other half in the 2nd. Theory is that if you lose one receiver you still have enough control to land the plane. I have thought long and hard about this and my thought is with a jet I unless everything freezes center position your screwed. plus with a full elevator with no power to the servo controlling it would it remain centered? not sure but most people go against it and say get something like powerbox that uses them as sats

I just found this:

this is true redundancy!!!

Each weatronic receiver contains two separate receiver units inside.

The JR/Spektrum 9-channel receivers have two receivers built into the main unit, plus it comes with one satellite receiver and provisions to add one more. The JR/Spektrum 12-channel has a main receiver plus 3 satellite receivers, and the Powersafe 12-channel has 4 satellite receivers.

How many more do you need for redundancy?

I had a 9 channel lock out on my Habu 32. That was expensive. Also the satellites are not individual receivers. They are antennae.

Do they receive the same frequency or does the Tx send two different frequencies? The latter would make for a better redundant system.

Not true! They are called Satellite or Remote RECEIVERS because that is what they are. You can read up on them on JR's, Specktrum's or Horizon's websites.

Then I am misinformed! I could not find the information you are referring to. Do you have a link?

They are called Satellite Receivers in this write up:

"Only Spektrum MultiLink receivers give you the protection of a main receiver connected to one or more satellite receivers. By mounting the smaller satellite receivers away from the main receiver in different orientations, the odds of all of them experiencing signal reflection at the same time are reduced to a statistical impossibility. No single receiver can come close to providing that kind of protection."

The weatronic module has two transmitters with different frequency hoping sequences and codes, each of the 2 diversity receivers within a receiver will bind to only one of the two different frequency hopping sequences and codes from the trasmitter, so yes you have two complete, separate and redundant transmitter/receiver systems.

Can you use the Weat with a JR 11X? Are there performance variations with different transmitters?

Hi Fender.

I don’t know why people think the Weatronics recivers are expensive. On the Wea USA site, a 12 channel micro dual rx cost is $259.00.

Remember this is a 12 channel 2.4 GHz Rx, frequency hopping, with 2 independent receiver circuits built into it. It also has a 24.Ghz transmitter on board, which sends a stream of data back to the Tx that you are holding in your hand. This data includes all the important performance info including, the received signal strength of both Rx’s and the number of information packets received. Not bad value for the money I think.

For me, the real value of the Wea systems is the telemetry which gives you all the Rx data, at the Transmitter.

Only if you bought a module based 11X, which I believe Horizon did not make available in the US.
The performance is not transmitter dependent, the Radio is only used for the servo position signal, the WEA module takes care of the RF link...

The JR sets that are compatible have removable RF modules and include the 12x, 10x. The 11x is not listed specifically on the website, but if it has a removable module it might be worth investigating.

that mini receiver I would think isnt for larger things like jets, I thought you need the bigger unit for a jet our size.

The Mini receiver is not for jets.  The weatronic 12-22r is what you need and its $700 plus.  But as of today they are having issues with the weatronic working w/ 14mz.  Thats why i have not ordered one yet.  I was told this my the us rep.

I unless everything freezes center position your screwed.
Just set your fail safe to neutral all control surface. So if one of the two receiver goes into fail safe those control surface goes back to neutral and allowed you with some control for emergency landing. Thats what i did with 72mhz but not yet tried 2.4

What? Don't tell that to the great many of us flying our jets on the Weatronic micro rx then! You only need the 12-22 when you need more than 12 servos or particularly high current flows etc.

Can anyone answer??? I think he is looking more for specifics, or at least I would like to hear it???

I already did, I think the 2nd post answered his question.
