RE: Shulman Aviation Turbinator ARF
The build progresses, but since life isn't only about jets, things don't progress as fast as we may like.
I decided to use Pro-Link struts with my 630 series Robart gear. I simply ordered the PST Reaction ARF strut set from Todd at Dreamworks. It is set PL-334. Struts only.
They were an easy fit. Since the gear well is originally slightly aft of center-line I opened up the well a little to center it and make sure the 3" wheels fit. I made sure I didn't open it too much. That way the plastic well liners would still work. I drilled and tapped the mounts for 6-32 bolts. The well liners will be screwed in place rather than glued.
I'm using Intairco 3" main wheels, also from Dreamworks.
I decided to fit the wing to the fuselage and set the airplane on the gear to determine the correct height of the nose gear. The wing bolts fit perfectly.
In photo 1 with the wing attached, we're looking from the rear up into the fuselage wing mount area. There is plenty of room between the wing and fuselage for air lines and servo extensions.

As is often the case, slight modification is necessary when not using equipment intended for the ARF. Since I'm using 3" wheels, my nose strut needs to be slightly longer. So I modified the bulkhead and servo mount to add room for the retracted nose gear and wheel.
I also added about 3/8" spacer blocks under the retract mount to gain extra strut length. That way the nose strut needs no extra pin length.
With these mods, the Pro-Links drop right in. I mounted the steering servo and rigged the pull-pull cables. Since the steering arm at the strut is lower than the fuselage, the nose hatch needs to be cut away for the cable runs.
The nose hatch gives plenty of access to the nose gear and any other equipment you choose to mount here.

Looking good Chris, I had to do the nosegear on mine like yours. Seems to work well. I'm sure you know about the set screw on the pro-link Struts that allows you to center the wheels in the wheel well. A little tweek here and there and they center right up. Looks like you will have it finished in plenty of time for Ky Jets. Hollar at us if you go to BG to test fly.

RE: Shulman Aviation Turbinator ARF
Finally after work delays and family events, followed by a 2 day visit to KY Jets, I got the first flights done at Bowling Green KY.
What a hoot this jet is! I set the throws and CG exactly as David said to. Randy Moore and I have not found anything that needs changing. I put the maiden and 2 more flights on it, and Randy put 2 additional flights for a total of 5. As you can see, the K-80 is plenty of power. We did find the spooldown was quick when coming off the power, but it spools up plenty fast to be safe. I'm using the Half Expo throttle curve which seems to match well.
I'm happy with the speed envelope. Slow flight is a blast. And for a fun beater jet, it has plenty of top speed. We could not keep it straight and level though. It just begs for aerobatics.
In the video the iphone zoom was left off so its hard to see some of the flying. My maiden landing was not in the video and the second flight landing sucked. I was way too fast. The jet could easily land at half that speed. We got better with more flights. Randy won the landing contest between us. He had it down! In David's videos you can see him doing "wheelies" after touchdown. Randy did also on mine so we like the CG.
Now it's time to put the graphics on and figure out why the K-80 is hanging during start after gas valve drops at 23k. Once running she's great so far.

Outstanding. Congratulations Chris. The Turbinator looks great and The K-80 pushes it well. I see Randy has on his 'Kentucky Hat" See you soon.

Thanks fellas.
Randy's hat was stylin'. I probably should get one. Scott had one too.
Scott didn't get a chance to fly the Turb yet. He was busy flying some low dollar F-86 thing. Something about WJM. When he's done messing around, we'll see if he can beat Randy's landings on the Turb.

Hello:
I bought a Turbinator too, but in shortkit, in Zirolì´s dealer, I hope receive it u¡in my home in the middle of month, I will fit Kingtech 80 too.
I like your video and the "instant replay", was cool the past.
My scheme will be Thunderbirds.

RE: Shulman Aviation Turbinator ARF
Hi there,
can someone put pic of how you install the wings? I have a question if the wings are glued and then when you prepare the model to fly put the 2 glued wings to the fuselage or are to separate wings and you install them into the fuselage?
thanks
