Hard to say, but I'm sure it would be slight enough to be able to manage or even just "fly" through the change the entire flight if you wanted. Let us know if you do it and how it goes. I won't be able to do anything for awhile.

Just picked up a NIB ARF Turbinator. Getting ready to start the build. I'll be using a K80 and DreamWorks gear. Going back through and reading up on this thread.

Yeah. It was a local purchase up here in Boise. Couldn't pass it up. My friend built one from plans and I was looking into building one as well. This will go together much faster!

Did you follow the new angle for the turbine? Seems like a lot of downthrust!

Cool. Looks like about 20 degrees of down. I am almost caught up reading through this thread. Will finish tonight...

About how much weight did you have to add to the front to balance? I plan on putting my packs as far forward as I can.

Yep, added nearly a pound of lead shot and epoxy to the forward most point in the nose with batteries forward as well. And yes, there is a lot of down thrust.

I had 4-5 more flights today, what a great flying plane. I'm starting to fly the covering off of it now though, it will need attention soon!

Was fortunate enough to buy a new Turbinator ARF last week. Beautiful red/white/blue Miss America covering scheme.
Planning on JetCentral Rabbit. Ordered retracts and struts from Dreamworks.
it will be my waiver jet, then moving turbine into CARF Rookie 2 Mexx edition.

Prototype has been flown with a K100G with no apparent issues with thrust/climb

That doesn't look like enough angle, but proof will be in the actual flights.

It does look good, and I'd love to see one in person. It's interesting the they made the rudder removable; and I understand why, but if the extra structure adds any weight, more ballast will be needed than before.

Keep us posted.

Hello All,
I've put about 60 flights on prototype #1 with a KingTech K100. I had to add about 1 pound of weight to the nose for balance. That was with the batteries up front.

The rudder is two pieces for shipping purposes. without doing it that way the box size was too large and the shipping would have been crazy expensive.

The wings butt into the fuselage, inlike the Shulman version where they bolt in from below. This opened up the interior of the fuse to allow for placement of the Sullivan 125 oz tank. It sits just about on top of the CG.

The thrust angle is per the original plans. I haven't experienced any climbing as I did with the Schulman version. The fuse is made of light ply and is more robust than the Schulman version. Maybe a bit heavier but not much. I came in at 26lbs dry.

The K100 pushed it effortlessly through its paces.

As for the glue joints. The glue joints are just fine. But like all good builders I went through the whole airframe and hit it with Hysol wherever I could.

Sorry for the poor video but it was done with a cell phone camera.

Feel free to contact me for any further information.

Happy Flying

Larry

On the control horns. I saw where some have cracked. Should I just replace them now?

Also, did you guys install the back plates on the control horns? Or did you just screw them into the hardwood blocks? The screws that came with my control horns were not the right size.

Hi guys,
I'm curious what everyone did for fueling and fuel vent. I was thinking about installing one of the DreamWorks overflow vent systems but wondering if there are other ideas out there.

Exactly what I used and works great on every other plane I've had (nothing wrong with the system at all), but with the tank being so "flimsy" in this plane, I've had a hard time being able to suck fuel from an overflow tank even after changing the actual vent twice to larger ones each time and running the largest tubing possible; and no, this isn't my first overflow vent set-up.
